hi im wondering if some of you well travelled folk can help me,me and my family are thinking of going to disneyland florida next year august for 2 weaks, and i was just wondering what you people think it will cost me on international drive, large room, passes for disney,i was told to check out travelcity direct but its coming out at nearly 3 grand is that expensive or am i being a cheapskate help appreciated.

Keep on checking sites like BMI, for sales. We flew BMI from Manchester to Chicargo, then chicargo to Orlando, ok so it was 2 flights there and 2 flights back, but that was £269 each saving us alot of money. Either that, or flying into Sanford international airport, smaller airport, bit further away, but saves a bit of money.
Scheduled flights instead of the package ones, will save you money, and you get more baggage allowance.
what sort of hotel are you hoping to stay in? theres places like the best wstern, which are probbably pretty similar to a travellodge (i.e. big chain, alright for sleeping in) or there are places with studios, and kitechens, so you have an option for cooking for yourself.
Car hire, dodge or alamo, are the ones we tend to go with.
Tickets, I would deffinelty go with Orlando ticket deals, they are online, and I would deffinetly reccomend them. DO NOT BUY TICKETS THROUGH KEITH PROWSE, he sells them too the travel agents, you pay full wack for the tickets, there are so many places that sell them alot cheaper.

the passes you need bump the price of the holiday up,
even with the good exchange rate at the moment it's still better value to buy them in the uk.
I think £3000 is about right price including you passes if you book with a tour operator.

Of course the biggest problem is the time of year. All airlines and travel companies cash in on the higher demand during school holidays. Whilst yours is at half term, I would say that was a peak time. Try looking at the Easter break or Summer and you will see a different picture.
2 Adults, 2 Kids:
We went at Easter 2006 - when Virgn made a mistake with their Easter dates - and cost us £2,600 for flights, hotel and car + £1000 for tickets. And that was a real good deal. Last Easter, we booked everything seperately. Flights were £1250 with Delta, Car was £450 and I used our timeshare as an exchange for accomodation.
We looked again for Easter 2008 - and again Virgin had (maybe now corrected) made the date mistake again. But they wanted about £3400 for flights and car (which we had to have but would have done our own thing as their insurance made it more expensive)
I would agree with the suggestion made about using scheduled airlines - but it would seem only the non direct flights make it reasonable. But... We almost got stranded at Atlanta on the way to Orlando as we missed the connection. (This was all down to the crazy US C&I and took over 2 hours to clear - they have gone completely OTT.) It was only the fact our eldest is autistic - plus staying very calm we got on the next flight. Someone got bumped because of that!!! But at first we were told "come back tomorrow" & this despite being told they flew each hour and that if we did miss the connection. They even refused to pay for the hotel!
To be honest, this has soured things for me and I doubt we will go back to the US (unless they sort out customs). The last trip was my 7th time.
So to be honest, I would say that for the summer next year, I would expect to pay closer to £4K for the flights, accomodation and car - plus another £800 for Disney tickets.
I would agree with the suggestion to buy before you go - but it really doesnt save you as much as you might think.
As I mentioned, it is a good idea to get your Disney tickets before going. There are a variety of choices and each represent differing values and expirey dates.
Last Easter, we bought 10 day no hopper/ no water park passes. For us it represented the best deal. Think it worked out at about £135 each. It gives 10 days in any main Disney park and is valid for 2 weeks from first use. We bought hopper ones the previous year - and just didnt use the "hopper", so it was a waste of money and only used the water parks twice for a couple of hours. So we saved about £70 each by not going that route. (£280 is quite a difference!)
Buying a pass of 10 days wasnt much more than a 2 day pass.
Obviously you may wish to hop from park to park each day - in which case, go the hopper route!
Other parks...
Universal is IMHO better than Disney - but Im not suggesting you should miss Disney. If you keep an eye on thedibb website, you will often see deals being posted. Last years visit, we got a great deal. Adult passes for 5 days for $99 and kids free. ie £100 all in for 5 days. Magic deal - and they always have things like this during the year. You just need to grab them when they do.
Seaworld/Busch Gardens. This year we bought a 5 day pass for either park (it is for 5 consecutive days like the Universal one above). Think that one worked out at about £180 for all 4 of us. Both are good parks - but my favorite of all of them was Busch Gardens. Great Coasters - but if its not your thing, then dont go there. Again, you need to keep your eyes open for when the deals come up.
So my advise, is trawel through "thedibb" and ask questions there. (A non squabble very helpful bunch of people). Wait for the deals to come up and grab them when they do. There is rarely anything "special" for Disney - but always for the others. Dont just jump in - you may regret it a week later when you cold have bought the same passes for half the price. Luckily I did follow the advice above - but I would have kicked myself if I hadn't!
