Someone a little more legally minded than me might be able to give me some advice on this.

I went into Thomas Cook yesterday to pay my remaining holiday balance of £230. I paid the balance in cash, and was given a receipt for the £230 paid.

I've now had a call to say that I only paid £130. I've told them I'm certain I paid the full £230 and have a receipt that shows that.

There now currently in the process of getting a manager to review the situation and look over the CCTV footage.

Where do I stand in all this?

Yep I've got the receipt. What if they get funny about it and mark my holiday as unpaid?

I'm also been told I was the only person who paid in cash yesterday.

You have a receipt, ask them if they can prove you didn't pay in said amount. How do you know a member of staff hasn't taken it? It takes someone very stupid to mistake £130 for £230. Don't give in. Turn it around and ask them to prove it.
Good luck

Surely whoever took the money off you must of counted it infront of you and then issued you with a reciept ?......if so there error i'd say !

I wouldn't even do that! You have a receipt, just keep tight hold and don't let it out of your sight! It's their problem, not yours.

You've got the receipt that says you paid £230. Now, whether you paid £230 or £130, they accepted and certified payment for £230, so it's their problem, not yours.

A someone has already said, who's to say someone in the store didn't take the £100 themselves??

Edit: just read the bit that says they're getting a manager to review - surely they should have done this in the first place before accusing you of paying less? Very por customer service (and possibly money handling skills) in this place...

You are fine - well done on getting the receipt. Hold on to it and do not give it to them!

You ain't gone in to sort it? You have a reciept they have no legal grounds.

Money was counted by them, receipt handed over.

I'm at work at the moment, but if they dispute it any more I will take the receipt in to show them.

Got a fax machine there? Offer to fax it to them, if it will put your mind at rest, but don't give them the original even for a moment. Take a copy, like someone else said.

When they did the receipt, wouldn't they have had a copy their end?

Sadly my receipt is at home on my dinning room table. Will fax it them when I'm in work tomorrow if there still demanding the money.
#15
I bet the person who did your receipt isn't there the next time you go in.

Ring head office and ask why are you being treated as some sort of criminal because they have lost £100

Once you've made absolutely certain your receipt is in order...

are you implying op only has a receipt for £130 :|

No not at all. But he's not got it there with him, so I'd not start getting overly angry with the agents until he's double triple and then had someone else check the receipt! Just me. If they kept bothering me at work though, and I had the receipt there and then, I'd be storming down there in a proper huff!

????????

what happened???

Sorry for the late update. Seems like there on the back foot a little now. Spoke to them the other day, and there not pushing me for the money. It was something on the lines of "If you could give us the extra £100 that would be great, If not oh well"

If anything else comes of it, I'll post on here.

I think they should be concentrating more on where the £100 has gone, rather than asking you for it.

They have made the mistake here, you have the receipt showing you paid £230, there is no way they can conceivbly think that you only gave them £130.

Absoulte muppets.
