Well i bought an archos 605 and now i need some films. Ive found it plays avi, divx etc aslong as the audio is in mp3 format and NOT aac format.

Anyway im on holls in 2 weeks and need some films. So is there anywhere i can buy about 10-20 films from in these formats?

Thanks for any help

Dont think you can buy divx movies, most people just rip their dvds to divx/avi using a program like winavi video convertor.

Rent them, if you haven't used the free trails for LoveFilm/BlockBuster/MyMovieStream use them now.

There is a months free trail with LoveFilm here

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/192677/90-days-free-trial-of-lovefilm/

Both BlockBuster and MyMovieStream have 2 week offers on their homepages.

There are quite often other offers for them too and Quidco too, check the voucher section for them

I used to rent them from the local video shop and rip them, in the day time I used to get them cheap if I rented in the morning and had them back by 17:00, 2 different shops were letting me have them for £1 a film and that included the new releases.

what did u rip them with? was it for use with the archos or just to rip to ur pc? im useless at this stuff....how long does it take to rip a dvd into about 700mb for the archos??
#11
Depends on the speed of your PC, a reasonably fast one can do it in two to three hours. The archos can read the DVD files directly without ripping them but for the x04 series at least you needed to buy a 20 euro addon.

You dont need to make them 700MB - unless you are then going to use it connected to a TV. The screen res is much lower and therefore the file will be smaller. I could help you out - but havent seen sight of my Archos for about 6 months. I've a nasty feeling Ive lost it!

Not that Ive ever noticed it! I guess it would just be down to how it was encoded if you did get problems. Like I said, I've not seen this problem.

I had trouble with mine.

Different players have different tolerances for files. I guess it's an issue as well that tighter compressions require more CPU power, something the Archos 605s don't pack a great deal of. Whatever though, my 605 80GB failed miserably when it came to playing any of the Prison Break episodes I torrented. They'd play, but they'd drift out of sync, then begin to crackle, and it'd need paused and resumed every five to ten minutes. Pretty poor stuff.

And that is, by the way, after using the codec unlock key that I had to torrent to use - Archos wanted another €30 to let me play more than just the vanilla formats.

how about a portable dvd player

look for this software for ripping to archos players and pmp's and pvrs etc...
software is Lathe 1.01 or above.. I have used it with most archos players and have about 100 films now converted on my pc.

anyone tried to stick a dvd rip on a phone?

Got a Pixon today and apparently it plays DivX..wondering how to do it?

What is DivX?

DivX is the name of a popular new video compression technology developed by DivX, Inc. The format was developed to enable users to play and create high-quality videos in a fast and convenient way, while still maintaining the best quality possible. The DivX codec is currently the most popular MPEG-4 based codec because of its quality, speed and efficiency as well as the wide range of DVD players that support DivX.

If you compare DivX movies to DVDs they're able to offer the same image quality at one-tenth (1/10) the size, which makes them perfectly suited for movie downloads where the bandwidth available usually is limited. This means that you can easily fit a full movie on a single CD, while still maintaining the original image quality of the DVD. The video is usually combined with AC3 or MP3 audio to provide both high quality audio and video. All of these things have contributed to the popularity of the format among those that download movies and videos online.

When you install the DivX codec it essentially works as an add-on to your system, which enables you to compress and decompress video in the DivX format. Once you've installed the DivX codec on your system you will be able to watch DivX videos using Windows Media Player or any other player that supports DivX.
