I have stripped down my banister of its white gloss, varnished it with Ronseal Quick Dry Gloss Varnish, and now would like it to look a bit more 'glossy'.

It's got a slight sheen to it, but nothing amazing. If I went down to Homebase before they closed and got myself some clear gloss varnish (instead of the coloured I had before) would this give more of a gloss?

The more layers of varnish I put on, the more of a sheen it gets, but also, darker it gets and it's only a light pine colour anyway.

Anyone tell me? Or would a wax work better?

I think a polyurethane gloss varnish will help with your quest for shine and give it some toughness as well.IMO anyway.:santa:

you could try sliding up and down it a few times

wax won't work properly over varnish ...
