Wagwan.

So the Microsofts have just announced a new fangled Xbox and I am hoping this means the used market for Elites may see a drop in prices.

My Xbox is 4 years old and although I have been lucky enough not to get a RROD, the drive is on the way out and it's probably only a matter of time before I see some red rings as well.

I am thinking of getting a used Elite and have heard that certain models (Jasper?) are less prone to exploding / melting / RROD'ing. What do I need to look out for / ask about to make sure that the model I get is more stable than another?

To prevent arguments, I already have a PS3 and a Wii so don't tell me to get one of those instead.

The price for present Elites will only drop significantly if the newly announced 360 drops in price compared to the current selling price of the 360.

I'm just thinking of the second hand market though, if people start to offload there old Elites to get the new model.

I'm not desperate for one and the 2nd hand prices at the moment are OK, it's more a question of what I should look out for

New xbox = same price as current Elite
Current Elite = $50 cheaper
Current pro/arcade or whatever it's called = $50 cheaper

Of course that is US pricing

I don't really see what the new machine offers that warrants a mass upgrade.

I know some will want it because it's new, but I can't see the market being flooded with 2nd hand elites.

I'll be selling mine in a couple of weeks I think, I'm happy enough to pay the difference for a new one.

OP, the Jaspers only started in October 2008 at the earliest- so obviously avoid anything before then. I'd say that anything after April 2009 is probably guaranteed to be a Jasper, but I'll see if I can find anything more specific.
