A passport is required.
http://www.ips.gov.uk/passport/index.asp
Costs over £71.00 and if this is your first passport you will need to attend an interview.
#8
The confusion is because the regulations state to travel freely as an EU citizen, you need to show that you are from an EU country when you cross a border in the EU.

For most EU citizens you simply need to show your identity card. But as the UK doesn't have one, you are forced to use your passport instead.

these passports are so expensive i have 5 children to get them for and myself then with the price of holiday spends etc dont think i will be going abroad this decade

Might as well go now, prices will probably treble within the next 10 years, blame the government:oops:.

Go to ireland. You don't need one to go there, No ID on the ferry. Photo ID for plane

Its real big brother stuff these days from nulabour.

I wonder what questions they ask? Might be stupid ones like you get asked when entering the USA such as 'are you intending to let off a nuclear bomb' ;-)

Anyone considering a plane to Ireland without a passport be careful, as some airlines require a passport even if you don't need it to get into the country.

Hardly their fault. Did they train the pilots that fly in to tall buildings?

He he. I got asked "Do you have any blood sausage with you?" I could think of a thousand questions they might have asked. That one totally threw me! Maybe he thinks my blood sausage may be a dagerous weapon!:whistling:
#20
strange how you cant get out of this country without a passport, yet millions have got in without one.
#21
You don't need a passport, but it is extremely hard to travel without one.

Phone the French Embassy and ask them if there is a viable alternative.

It is a fair question. As someone else said most EU citizens don't need one to travel between memner countries.

And I mentioned in it that I was going, and I did leave for like 2 months.

Which two months? You posted in HUKD threads in Dec 07, Jan 08, Feb 08 and now Mar 08. ;-)

Well said!!

Well obviously 2 months wasn't long enough for you to learn how to play nicely was it!

It was a simple question, but one that no doubt many people didnt know for sure one way or the other. As in theory you shouldnt need a passport as a national id card would suffice but as we havent got national ID cards we are stuck with paying the ransom that is charged when wanting a passport.
#28
When I was in the Army I had no problem travelling across the cnannel without a passport, the problmes arised when I tried to get into blighty from the continent. Thats not to say you don't need one

I've got a fully working one, but I use it daily, so I'd sell it for like £70. Sorry, but I'd need to replace it if I sold it.

Sorry, but it just annoys me, when spending 30 seconds on google would answer the question.

Why? You dont HAVE to read the post, its not taking anything away from your life, it has no adverse effect on you, the only thing that does is by posting in threads like this what "annoy" you. If you dont like move along you dont need to even open the thread to find out what it is as the title says it all!

thank you hartzter thought i was the only one who had noticed how rude he could be,as i have said before i have 5 kids i dont get out much and as sad as it may be this is my socialising time so i talk on here(or elsewhere)rather than just do a search on google,i am certainly not the only one who asks questions on here rather than do a google search

They just ask you a load of questions based on the answers you gave on your application form and on information that they can obtain from sources such as the electoral rolll, and your bank, etc.

It can seem a bit intimidating but it's painless in reality.
