Would it make life easier at Hukdeals?

Would it do the same thing as the report/spam button or something else?

No, I assume the report/spam button sends a message to a mod, wasting everybody's time. Having a specific button, say If 10 people click it, and provide the original thread as proof (the user is asked for the original thread link), the thread/deal would be automatically taken down until reviewed by a mod.

Problem is if you have a duplicate button and it deletes the post the op would still have no idea why it was removed without another 'where's my post' thread. Perhaps if they were like expired posts so they were still visible but have a 'exclude duplicates' like we do with the expired.

The result of one person clicking it would have no effect, only if a set number of users having clicked the button, and also provide the original Hotukdeals link, then the thread would be temporarily taken down.

Reporting spam button automatically removes deals. It is just a vote. Mods are not notified nor pass judgement unless it is requested back (I think they review the spammed deals but not misc threads). You can even vote spam and remove threads created by the mods if you want.

Ok, I never knew that. How about adding a "duplicate deal" option when the user clicks report/spam. All I see is spam/other.

why not have a way of searching to see if something has been already posted, oh wait :|

Erm, I always do search, doesn't everybody? To compare prices at least. The thing is, the search facility doesn't always bring back immediate results, unless advanced search is used, and I don't see many people using advanced search as it's inconvenient.

when you post a deal it asks you if it is a duplicate. i know that this isn't 100% effective but it works kinda

Following the discussion today in the "Misc" thread below, the "The thread you are trying to view has been marked as spam" page displayed could also show the details of the thread that has been supplied by a number of members (ten, as suggested) as a duplicate:

There should be a dislike as well as like option.

Thanks to you both. I saw the laptop, thought, great, I might buy that, and used Google to search for reviews. This came up with a link to Hot UK Deals, which I followed because I thought it might be a useful source of information. I had never visited your website before yesterday, and my first impression of it was that the deal, which I knew was genuine, had been marked as "reeking of spam" and thrown in the bin. It turns out that means it's a duplicate. Would it not give a better first impression to either:
    - Provide a link to the deal that remains on your website or
    - Link to it directly
This would require some work, but it's not rocket science. Happy Boxing Day!
