The new version (µTorrent Version 1.7.1) contains a feature that sends your IP and upload/download information to the MPAA and the RIAA.

What b**t*rds!

Use at you're peril!

And, if I may ask, how do you know this?

You do have to be careful nowadays - The MPAA created a fake download site designed to put spyware on your system; MiiVi.com. It went offline after it was exposed.

Luckily, I use Azureus. :)

Torrentspy posted a message about being pressured into revealing the information of the people who use the site awhile ago... It won't be safe to download from any of the big sites the way it's going atm.

Nobody knows for sure, due to the fact μTorrent is a closed-source program.

The history is that in December 2006, BitTorrent, Inc bought μTorrent.

BitTorrent, Inc had signed a deal with some movie companies, like 20th Century Fox, Paramount, MTV and warner brothers, which made many users wary. The fact that it's not open-source is a wee bit scary.

I use Transmission for mac tho. :)

This is FUD - don't believe it.

This is a malicious rumour that is spreading with no evidence to back it up. It's absolutely false. Please don't propagate it further.

But he listed his sources as 'cos i do m8'

You just have to believe him, it's the gospel truth.

Ok first off that IP upload gadge was directed at the US. UK is pretty safe when it comes to that. And the RIAA are a US based company.

Also I download my beta's from Utorrent. These are official from the games companies site. Im downloading World In Conflict at the moment, its the beta and it's legal.

Well at least i'm not a total download *****!, I've still got utorrent 1.5 installed, It had quicker speeds than 1.6 the 1.6 version.

I've actually only downloaded legal files, Top gear and fifth gear episodes that i've missed!

UTorrent can only report back stats anyway......not what files you download. Just install peer guardian and your fine. :)

A bit o/t but I don't think Fifth Gear/Top Gear episodes are legal? They are still copyright material which the owners wish to sell...

Its a grey area I think, Its similar to recording it from the tv to Dvd, video, Harddisk etc.

I've got a tv licence so that should be BBC2 covered (as they even had the episodes on their site, But Fifth gear is more of a grey area as they have the pay content on their site.)

God bless PeerGuardian 2 :)

PeerGuardian/Protowall offer very flimsy protection (though better than nothing, I'll admit). They only just make you feel safe, like a condom with a hole in it.
