Do you always send your details when doing a trade in the FS/FT Forum?

As soon as anyone buys anything from me I automatically send them my full details (name, address and contact number).

As a buyer it always seems like I have to ask for this info...

I had been offered an item on my Wanted thread by a user with no feedback so asked if they'd send first - they said no - so we decided to wait until they'd received some feedback.

They contacted me when they had feedback and we did the deal on the thread and they PM'd me their Paypal email address and asked me to pay Paypal Gift, I responded by asking for their full details.

A couple of days passed and I asked for the info again PM and on the thread and gave them a link to the Trading Guidelines.

Now the seller is being incredibly rude saying I was sending cryptic messages? And that I keep asking for different things? ie. posting first then full details etc...

Back on topic....

Do you always send details and expect them to be sent when you agree a sale?

Oh and does anyone have any idea on what I should do about the aboce scenario?

Thanks in advance :)

I have never asked for anything, but then never sent more than i could afford to lose if it went tits up, also would only ever send money to someone i felt comfortable dealing with, doesnt mean i wont get ripped off, but does mean i wont lose more than i can afford

i'll be honest, with a reputable member i probably wont send my details unless they ask, for low feedback members and high value items i always send my details inc phone number. might explain the odd calls i get now and again lol.

I see the logic in that

I did a deal quite a while ago with someone who didn't send the items (paid by BT & didn't get details so nothing I could do) so now I always get details no matter how much.

I didn't feel entirely comfortable, but they were polite to begin with, and are now using their 'rep' as some sort of indication of how trustworthy they are, this means nothing to me really as I have been scammed by someone with way more posts and rep - but think shes either suspended not not shown her face again

Thanks Sassie :)

I never give details unless I'm buying, don't really see the point there. And I'm just glad I have good feedback on here now, otherwise selling high value items can be a nightmare for new people with low posts and feedback.

I'm just glad the person who bought a monitor off me for £115 looked at my feedback and didn't hesitate, the system works! (sort of and sometimes, lol). Yay.

Would you expect details from low feedback members though?

Odd calls eh?

I think thats your prerogative - I send mine - only had one person check it out though out of all the trades I've done

Good feedback does speak for itself - most of the time:thumbsup:

I don't request anything from users on here that I trust.

I rarely buy from new members unless they're willing to post first. As a seller I give the buyer whatever info they request but generally make sure that they have my phone number at least.

dont really see the point in anyone asking for a number unless they gonna check it out, seems rather pointless

The buyer responded to my wanted post - i did ask them to post first - but they're now saying - 'who does that in the real world'?:whistling:

I just thought with it being in the guidelines I automatically send it...

You see so many horror stories about items not received etc and comments posted like 'give them a call' 'hope you got their details' etc etc
#12
If I deal with trusted members I dont ask for anything and would be willing to give money/trade first on all accounts.

But then again, these days, I only deal with the trusted members.

I go by the rules of "its MY thread, MY rules" thing

Lol, I think the thing we most forget about is that even though most people are *online* these days. There are some people (and I've definitely met a few) who aren't all that -friendly/have common sense- in **supposed real-life** as opposed to all of us in virtual reality here:-D

HUKD - Like plugging into the Hatrix everyday, you will not escape.

i say good on you for doing this without being asked, but its the buyers responsibilty to get and check details, if they cant be arsed then thats down to them, but like i said good on you anyway

If the deal is now worrying you then just pull out. I'm sure if you're left a negative a mod will be able to remove it if you forward the relevant pm's requesting personal information which the other user ignored to them.

I'd check with Ascottishbloke first just to be safe though

LOL - shame I can't add you more rep for making me smile!

I've never sent or received more than required for the deal, i.e. my home address or paypal email.

Is your motto too, to only buy from trusted members then - I just read between the lines a bit

The seller has actually pulled out - she posted on the thread and sent me a really snotty message which I posted on there.

Have reported it as they've pulled out (still can't work out what I've done wrong!) - but not sure what will happen.

Thanks for the advice - left you rep :)

Well with 85 feedback I think you'd be trusted

But the fact you're willing to give your details proves a point though - even the reputable members are willing to give their details if asked.

Thank you

Cheers

It's bad drills to post a private message up though as for what will happen now the mods will probably review it eventually and possibly give a infraction to the seller.

As I always send items recorded del. my address is on the were
to return item to label, and when buying you have to give your details. On
avforums it expected for noobies to send first.I would be vary wary with
new members as there seems to be more and more rip off merchants about.
Someone whos genuine wont mind sending first to an established trader,I can
understand though if its of high value why they might not want to.
Only buy off long standing members now myself after being ripped off for £28,
incidentally the guy got some fast feedback 12 I think it was, then he ripped 12
members off in total for hundreds of pounds in some cases.

I only really deal with the higher feedback members to avoid most issues

It's easily done that's why you still need to be cautious on all trades and at the end of the day as Sassie said don't spend what you can't afford to lose.

While selling, I dont mind if the buyer has joined the site today, as long as they pay for the item. If they want my details, I will give them. While buying I am careful to choose the seller, but as someone said earlier, it depends on how much am I prepared to loose out & not kill myself. But to be on the safe side, I would take as many details as possible (Not that it will definitely save me) :whistling:

When buying, I always ask for contact details. Name, address, email & phone number. If a mobile number is given, I would get the other person to text me some kind of code word. I always give mine in return...
