So you want to donate your clothes to someone who really needs them, but you don't want to give them to a charity shop ???

Er... hand them out at your nearest maternity ward?

How about your local social services - the can give them to children in foster care / foster homes.

If they are tiny baby or for prem babie then your nearest neo natal unit would take them.

Hospitals near me wont take them for hygiene reasons.I don't want to use freecycle cos they are a bunch of grabbers.I asked my health visitor if she would take them and give them to someone she knows might need them but she refused saying she 'wasn't allowed'.

Our local British Red Cross operates a 'clothing project' where unwanted clothes are donated by anyone and then people who really need them are allowed to come in and pick clothes that they need. No one buys or sells anything - it's all purely done on a donation basis. This isn't done through the normal Red Cross retail shops - anything like that in your area?

Perhaps enquire at your local church - many have contacts with womens refuges or may be able to direct you to a suitable charity.

Not all staff in charity shops take what they want for themselves :)

you don't have much trust in people do you? I know 3 local women on my freecycle who collect clothes and they send off these clothes around the world or use them for charity locally. Lot's of genuine people who are after clothes for there children too. There are always people who want to take, take, take but not everyone is a 'grabber' just to sell on.

local womens refuge would be my first choice, some of the women arrive with nothing for them and baby. You can put them in your recycle box.. some will be shredded made for blankets, others given to charity. Salvation Army often give direct to mothers/dads in need. Childrens ward, childrens home.. bound to be a teenage mother who doesn't have much living nearby, maybe ask the local hospital.

This is what I do with mine - my mother outlaw (me and the ex never married so she's not really an inlaw, lol) works for childrens services and she's taken in lots of my kids old clothes and they've all been given to kids in care that hardly have anything

Don't put them on freecycle, I was told by an ex admin from there the mods take their pick of the best stuff.

I would say go for a womens refuge or local social servies. :)
