"Do you really need to print this email?"

Who here is guilty of putting this at the bottom of each email they send?

I rarely have a rant on here, but what people don't seem to realise is that by adding "Do you really need to print this email?" at the end of an email, they are increasing the length of it, thus needing more printing.

The number of times I've seen someone print an email which has been two pages long, and all the second sheet said was "Do you really need to print this email?"!! It's slightly annoying after a while.

I'm not very good at ranting about this. But hey...

Did you really need to print the e-mail?

If theres anything online or an email I need to print for backup, like order confirmations I print them to PDF and email it to myself for storage as it gets sent to one account with google mail then gets sent to yahoo as a copy and then downloaded through outlook so its backed up in triplicate to cover all eventualities without having to waste ink/paper. Only if needed then do I actually do a paper copy.

I have this below mine, but I checked it would fit just below my signature therefore unlikely to cause 2nd page

Can you not just save them as the same file name with date and time appended to the end?

There are roughly 210 billion emails sent per day - if everyone added that line to the bottom of their email that would amount to 3.1 million gigabytes of wasted bandwidth per year - not to mention the environmental impact of the extra energy used to transmit, receive and create the tools for storing that data :giggle:

First level of waste heirarchy, prevent, then minimise, then recycle (technical definition), then reuse (technical definition), then valorise and then finally landfill or non-EfW destruction.
