I personally think its far more dangerous smoking while driving and should be banned like using your phone is.

I also hate the disregard some smokers have by tossing their cigarette.

Just wondered what your thoughts are on this?

I think smoking in general should be banned, never mind when your driving.

yeah, taking a fag out of the box, lighting it etc means not having control of the vehicle properly, agree should be banned, if eating an apple isnt allowed nor should smoking be!

Which is the same as when your messing around looking for a CD in the glove box... or messing with the radio station..

People do not cash due to speaking on a mobile phone, its only when people are "thick" enough to take their eyes off the road when messing around with their phones or trying to SMS text!

Next you will be saying your not allowed to talk when driving!!

Sorry have to disagree there it's a distraction every fool who cuts me up on roundabouts you can guarantee they are yapping into their phones, one hand on the wheel, looking at the road but not 100% concentration.

Talking can distract some people it does me  but I think it's pretty much proven holding a phone and using whilst driving distracts you and I think it's right they are banned seeing the fools who do it daily, just my opinion.

Absolutely not.

If I'm on the phone whist driving and I see a police car, I can quickly drop the phone into my lap and continue my call later.

If I had to do the same with a cigarette I could start a bush fire.

I disagree and agree with you

First... Yes.. people who use thier phones (in their hand) tend to make the most mistakes while driving and I see this every single day without failure! These are the mobile how shoulsd be getting the 3 points and £60.00 fines!

However -- the part i disagree with is that for example me.... I have a fully intergrated bluetooth car kit, with voice recognition, To make a call its a press of one button, Speak, and auto dials..

To end a call... its one button...

The button is also next to the button which is used to changing the radio station on the steering wheel... so its not even like you have to so call think about it.....

So... from a hands free point of view... I think a fully intergrated car kit is safe... plus... if you use it a lot like I do... you dont lose any concentration. the same as if a person was sat next to you in a car.

Looks like I have gone off topic...

The differance is the law...

By law.. you are not allowed to eat or drink while driving. By law you can smoke.
#10
The law does apply to this - if you are distrcted by smoking you can get done for this. If you had an accident and were smoking at the same time I would expect the police to at least add "driving without due care and attention". This new distraction law applies to radios, apples, water, smoking or anything that distracts you from driving.

Kids in cars should also be banned by this rationale :)

Couldnt disagree more. Mobile phone use has been shown to be more dangerous than drink driving! Smoking boosts concentration levels I believe so maybe we should all be lighting up when driving ;)

Its no harder for a smoker to light up than change gear!

lost count of the number of times this has happened to me. Then I normally get given the finger when tooting them up and telling them to put their phone down :w00t:

Its very dangerous and should be banned. Especially those so called 'parents' who smoke with their poor kids in the back of a car.

If your smoking you dont have hold of the wheel properly, if you drop the cigarette you get burned!

Smoking is a filthy dirty habbit, why anyone would choose to smell like smoke, have yellow teeth and waste money on something which could one day kill them is beyond me.

lol at 'very dangerous' :whistling:

I assume you drive down the road with your hands on the wheel permanently apart from changing gear and never exceed any speed limit?

Do you always drive with your hands at '10 and 2'?

I don't, especially on motorways when I'll occasionally have a smoke. Roundabouts what you do is you put the cigarette in your mouth and hold it with your lips.

Teeth-whitening is cheap, carry deodorant and meh, we've all gotta die someday.

I hope this has allayed your fears and you'll consider smoking in the future.

Thanks for your call.

I do not drive, but I am not an idiot, I know if you dont have 2 hands on the wheel then you wont be driving to the best of your ability.

Yes we all have to die but by smoking you are cutting your life expectancy.

I have smoked in the past but come to my senses and realised I didnt want to be a smelly trollop with no money!
#17
What bugs me most about drivers who smoke is that often they throw their butts out the window. Now, show me a car on the road that DOESN'T have an ashtray? So why litter? Furthermore why throw something out the window that could potentially start a fire or be lifted by a young child? If I'd my way I'd fine every fecker going that does that.

Maybe learn to drive, and spend a few years doing it before commenting on things like driving then:thumbsup:

Getting on a plane lowers your life expectancy, drinking alcohol does, crossing a road does, having breasts, ovaries or a prostate does, skydiving does, driving a car does....

Chill out - have a smoke.:whistling:

Aren't they bio-degradable? Either way I don't mind if people want to fine people for littering.

I can't say I like seeing people dropping any litter so you'd have my support:thumbsup:

and pollute the air and the lungs of anyone near you. Everyone is entitled to have their own vices, even if it does risk their health but they should not be entitled to do it at the risk of other peoples health.

LOL -- :-D

Everyone is free to voice their opinion, but I love it when a non driver try's to have an opinion about something that they are unable to legally do.. -- (and all non drivers always say, I can drive, just have not done my test!)

Its always the non drivers which try and campaign to stop things, lower speed limits, put up speed cameras.... try and get everyone on buses...

I agree - which is why I'm looking to ban people having kids.

There's not a single act on this earth that generates as much pollution and waste as having a child does and lets be honest, we've got enough people around nowadays don't we? I mean come on, is your kid really gonna be anything other than a seat-filler on the ride known as life?

I'm obviously kidding, but plenty of things people do I don't particularly like. But I can't go around looking to ban them because of that.

People already think I'm a big enough jerk without me doing stuff like that to make it worse.

Why are people so disgusting.

I am surprised some of them don't go to the toilet in the street.

They should've let pubs and clubs decide on whether they banned smoking or not.

Let all the cool, good-looking people have their smoking pubs and the rest can have their non-smoking pubs.

Now obviously people will say I'm being silly and that smoking isn't cool....but I'd say show me a picture of someone cool and I'll show you a picture of them smoking.

If I can't do that then you've obviously chosen someone uncool....or they're the exception to the rule....or I was wrong.

My fella must be cool then.

I think it is a drain on our finances and might shorten his life which is not cool to me.

I dont think smoking will ever be banned. The amount of taxes from the tobbacco industry is too much for the government not to have. Same with the alcohol industry.

This made me lol
I'm not a smoker although I did used to years ago. I think that smoking in the car is no more distracting than having crying babies, bickering kids, dogs jumping all over the place, arguing with the OH, loud music etc. In fact thinking about it the chances are the smoker will be more chilled out and less likely to crash.
#31
What would you rather have,
Someone smoking while driving and being fairly calm and sensible and occasionally throwing their fag ends out the window,
or someone driving who is going crazy 'cos it's been ages since they last had a cigarette and is driving like a maniac?
#32
Shouldn't be driving a car if you're having withdrawal symptoms from an addictive substance.

FilthAndFurry

I actually think people should not be allowed to have kids willy nilly. They should at least be forced to do some basic education first, make them think twice.
#33
I'd actually agree with the "ban it" comment. I smoke and the government needs to do something or shut up. Ban it or leave it. If it's really that bad for everyone and the state of the country and the NHS and all the other b*******s they keep going on and on about, just ban it. If not shut up and leave it to my choice if I want to smoke or not. Don't tax me more and more saying its for my own benefit because it isnt. The majority of people who smoke is fairly poor, this is a tax on the poor and they will still smoke. Either ban it or let them smoke.

For anyone complaining about people smoking invading your airspace and damaging your health etc etc - do you have kids? Because I can't get on a train without some kids shouting and running about the place and then turning round and coughing over everything and everyone. There are a lot more irritating things than smoking How about smelly people? Fat people invade my space and they are also costing the NHS just as much in fat related diseases - lets tax the burgers of them for their own health sake and the NHS!!!!

We live in a society - you complain about one group of people, you need to complain about them all. People should be able to choose and no one is perfect so stop moaning and dont come stand next to someone who is outside and smoking. (oh and if anyone has any proof walking pastsomeone outside who is smoking that passive smoking in this instance is actually harmful I would be glad to see that scientific research - no proof? keep quiet then.)

Ban it, ignore it - whatever but stop going on about it!!!!

But that's dangerous. You'll get smoke in your eyes, causing a reaction with the tear ducts causing temporary blindless through eyelid closing as well as a lack of concentration.

But as its you, carry on.
