Always traded Sundays up here for ages. Dunno why the shops should be shut to pander to what is potentially a minority of religious followers in this nation these days.

But then you wouldn't have the money that goes with it.

i don't care about the money i would rather have it off and spend it with the family, but we are made to work weekends, christmas ect We also don't get paid any extra for it.

I do not work weekends but I would vote for closing on sundays I used to work long hours and still managed to get my shopping when the shops were closed sundays, remeber the small shops were open and altho some times more expensive you were supporting local traders and notgiving even more profit to huge suppermarkets.

Sunday could then be about good timesI know some of us think shopping is good times ( I am one of them) but sundays were better b4

No... some people only have that day off to do things. People that work in retail chose too, and knew they would be working weekends when taking on the job. Although some places have weekend staff.

The shops must make good ££ otherwise they wouldn't open

I think all Sunday restrictions should be abolished.

some ppl have no chioce its the only job they can get and they still have to take it even tho they know they will have to work Sundays

I was a manager of one of the big DIY stores when the changes came in out of my 55 staff only 5 or 6 wanted to do sundays and I had to have 12 to open so I had to force ppl to work I am not happy to have done this but inturn I had no chioce either for the first year I worked every Sunday as I would not make other do what I would not

I hated it and it was one of the reasons for a career change

A lot of people working retail started before sunday opening
They were then forced to work sundays or lose job

Don't most places have 'weekend' staff anyway for students? These laws must have been years ago as i worked sundays and that was 8 years ago.

What about the hospitals should they close aswell..... cos they have no choice as to working weekends... :)

Cheers Miles, I work monday - saturday so when would you like me to go food shopping?
#19
LOL just saying that all :) love the comments tho.... personally I think the Sunday trading laws are fine as they are 10-4 and closed bank hol Mon if they are over a certain square footage
#20
So the shops cant open on sunday, but they are allowed to deliver to my house on sunday. Think it through.
#21
Bring it back, and half-day Wednesdays too.

We're a Christian nation anyway, we should all be in church on Sundays.

I prefer them open as I dont want to go to a corner shop to buy something if I run out that costs a few times more.

How long ago was it that it changed, I can vaguely remember some shops closed on Sundays and when I was 18 working in Yorkshire and seeing the shops close half days on Wednesdays though my home town in Scotland didnt.

I do vaguely remember some local pubs closing around 4pm for a few hours too any ideas when that was.

Back in the dark ages,, when we were all law abiding church goers!

Not many places pay double time on a sunday like they used to
Time and a 1/2 now if your lucky

I am lucky

the psychological benifits to having a day of rest, are well documented. nobody died because they couldnt get milk on a sunday. I dont have to work weekends now, i used to, its hellish. I STILL REMEMBER THE DAYS OF SUNDAY bordom. Use it to work on your relationships.
