Mmm... I kinda agree but its a sweeping generalisation.

Heres another: People with bridge cameras who think they have an SLR are more stupid

Also, you can take good photos on a iphone camera if you're good!
#4
you can't paint a masterpiece on your first try............

silly boy

Why do people thing having an SLR camera and taking photos at stupid angles instantly means their pictures will be good, when really they are still taking crap photos

How do you know those images will be crap? you cant see through that viewfinder from that angle at that point in time, your interpritation of what they can actually see might constitute a great shot, your just making a general assumption.

I'm not disagreeing that there arent plenty of people out there like that but its a bit ott.
#6
I know what you mean. I used to take photos all the time with my SLR, but stopped one day when I walked along a river, and noticed a girl stopping every few feet to take a photo of something nicely lit up by the sun from various different angles. I thought, "Oh god, is that what I'm like?", realised that it was, and have almost never used my camera since.

Seriously, "art" photography is the lamest hobby and lowest form of art imaginable. Even stick men have more merit to them. At least they require some imagination.

Let me get this straight. Your on a holiday/break in Australia, spending your time on the misc section of a shopping website based in the UK, complaining about peoples choice in cameras?
#8
I'm not entirely sure what your problem is. Lots of people enjoy photography and they might personally like photos at weird angles.
I have a 'imitation slr' camera, I know it isn't an SLR, I can't afford an SLR. The photos I take are for me (or Scouts etc...). I certainly do know what I'm doing with it though.

I am really not sure what your point is. Would it be better if I used a compact camera? The pictures would be worse. Do you want me to not have these photos?

Few threads this morning like this.

I kinda agree even though I own an SLR.
It's fine to own one if you know what you're doing with it.
But there's no point owning one if all you're going to do is stick to the preset scene modes.
People who buy SLR's expecting the camera to produce good photos are stupid.
#14
What a stupid thread!!

Nothing wrong with slr's and yes i do have one. How do you know that the photos they are taking are rubbish?

And even though you can take some good photos with a compact the quality of photos can be a lot better when taken with an slr and by someone who knows what they are doing. It doesnt matter if people are taking photos at silly angles its all down to personal preference.
#15
Does it really impact on you in any way?

+1 OP is very silly and a nit picking person

maybe they are learning?

I have and "imitation" SLR if that's what you want to call it. But at the start I would take pics of everything with all different settings because I wanted to learn on the go how to use it and not read a fat manual or guide ect... all part of the fun of getting a camera that wasn't set to auto.

I don't use it as much as i used to but I would be pretty ****** if someone was getting annoyed with me taking my time with my camera.

Don't like it? then walk on and come back later.

Such a sweeping generalisation.

It's a bit like saying people who frequent forums a lot are sad geeky little virgins who when on holiday would need to find a internet connection to get their fix...............oh.............hang on. :p :-D
#20
surely a photo is only as good as the photographer believes...thus opinion, i might think some of your shots are crap, while you think theyre amazing...
#21
i think the op is really trying to tell us he's on holiday . .

people use cameras, their life, their passion, not everyone's matin parr . .

http://media.www.buchtelite.com/media/storage/paper1203/news/2008/03/11/ArtsLife/Famous.British.Photographer.Visits.Ua-3261840.shtml

others like frequenting forums on holiday, each to their own.

yeah what about people who buy computers and don't know how to fix them when they go wrong, just stupid......

and those who buy bread and don't know how to make a sandwich......................

Smartest thing you've ever said.

I have an SLR, and tend to use funny angles, which i think get me good pictures, whatever anybody else thinks is irrelevant, some people like my pictures and some people don't.

I take pictures as a hobby, which pleases me, can't see why it annoys you that much  , perhaps you're jealous...... :)

tbh i think people who use funny angles, as you say, are using photograpy better, they could take that picture, from that angle, with any camera and get a cool shot. However the people with a grands worth of equipment and still use the green box. Believe me, there's loads of them!!!

I agree with this. Many of the people who spend time taking 'art' shots get a great deal of pleasure from it, and that's a good enough reason to do it. And apart from the results, it's also a good way of training the eye on the details around us that tend to be missed completely or just taken for granted.

I'd much rather see someone come back from Hong Kong with interesting new takes on everyday events/places there, than stories of how 'stupid' everyone was.

Nice photo btw. Taken by you?

photography is the most overrated thing going imo, sure its a great hobby for some and i love a good pic, but big headed people suggesting other people are bad at it is the lamest thing ever...point click.

I didn't go and 'find' an internet connection, when I'm in their house.

but technically you did..... even if you know its there, you still found it, if you took a laptop there it would say "wireless network found"

But I didn't go and find it.

This person reallyyyy has nothing to do and just bitch and moan about others...
How the hell are people meant to learn how to use a SLR if they don't own one?!
