"I personally wouldn't know how to report something it would be much easier if a button was right in front of your face".

Guess what, it is you tool, this button is on every single profile/group/page.

^^^ this lol

theres a guy that was in my form at school he is soo sad, he used to add all these girls that were like 2 or 3 years younger than us when we were at college etc and his whole wall was just, "hey thanks for the add but who r u x" loool how cringeworthy, but also why would these girls accept the add, what kinda of benefit do you get from having a big number of 'friends'. Its just dumb kids that get lured in and why the hell they would then go meet with someone is just beyond me

you dont need life experience to realise you dont go meeting up with strangers off the internet and espec if they say they are your age etc, you would triple check this.

"dont talk to strangers" that was inbred into us from early on at school, so dont see why these young kids are logging on talking for a bit and thinking...hmm sounds good to meet this person, hey whats the worst that will happen...hmm dno might get raped and murdered.

i dont think they add them to meet them, although for some it progresses into that, as for talking to strangers, kids do think the internet is safe, its like not real life

There are clear defined levels of grooming that take place on social networking sites. The first one is getting added to facebook or whatever and the last one is the meet.
The last one I was involved in was a female in my daughters class who was being given £10 credit to put on her phone by an adult pretending to be a 14 year old boy. These were for pictures to be sent to him.
He even had a 14 yr old boys picture up. She invited my daughter to her computer in her bedroom to meet her "boyfriend" she switches on the computer and starts talking to this "boy" via webcam
My daughter who was also 14 realised there was something not right and unbeknown to her friend starts recording the conversation on her phone, that is coming through the computer speakers. It is obviously a grown up male whispering to make himself sound younger.
I listened to the recording to hear him asking my dtrs friend to show him her boobs again and also show him her £$%$%$. The girl asked my daughter to show him her £$%$$ as this girl was overweight and quite embarassed
her parents were suitably informed and we are trying to trace him. She was up to the penultimate stage. The only thing left was the meet
fair do's to my daughter (CID bound !!). This girl who had never had a boyfriend was allowed her computer in her bedroom and the parents had no idea what was happening.
Within a couple of months, this had gone from nothing to this.
Anything that helps us catch these people, I am in favour of

so whilst they were on 'webcam' it was just audio...no video?

its lucky your girl is on the ball, confused why these kids are so naive though.

Do they run any seminars etc in schools these days to warn kids of the dangers?

But a button that has a different label will not do that, so why are the news going on about it, more education about it is what's needed, not different coloured buttons.

Not bothered how we catch them, as long as we do. If a big button helps me catch one, make it as big as you like !!
I agree with you about the education also

My dtr says there was no video of him, only audio.
Not sure what the school liaison officers include in their talks. If this isnt in them, it should be

And that is how easy it is, we have people screaming we wrap todays children in cotton wool and we should, then we have the other 50% who say we take away their innocence by telling them to much, you canna win

Compulsory classes in high school on this subject are a must imo. And not by dopey teachers who don't know the mouse from the keyboard - you obviously need someone half IT literate. Hell, I bet parents would be willing to run such classes if they were given the option by the school.

It's a real tragedy what happened to this girl and better education on the subject might just have prevented her being sucked in by this guy.

It's not even a 'new' issue - I remember it was covered on Grange Hill (or Byker Grove?) once years ago. Some girl was IMing a 'cute guy' in class and it was some old rapist geezer. She got away though - don't worry!

But they'd be wrong, like you.

I think kids today are being raised in a society that makes sure nothing bad will ever happen to them and if it does there will be hell to pay..everything these days is so safe, police / teachers / parents aren't allowed to touch them.. they're not allowed to climb trees, they have to wear protective clothing to play conkers.. we've created a society were kids don't have to fear anything.. just a shame some have to find out the hard way that not everyone obeys the rules.

True... I have been slated by some on here, for letting my 13 year old daughter have an account, and post. The way I see it is that we discuss what has been said... I actually talk to her about the fights that go on... we discuss the fact that some of the members on here lie... a lot!

The thing is... I would rather be quietly watching her on here, than wondering what website she is on elsewhere........

You can't fix the websites.... but you can educate the people using them!!!!

Don't have facebook and never will. I'm sure there must be some reason it's a successful site and has a purpose, but I've yet to work out what it is. What's the point of having 1000 "friends" when most you don't even know or at best "met once". Same goes for all the "twits".

Mind you, it's a good stalking tool. You get to see any old Tom, Harvie or Wayne.... And laugh at them. :w00t:
