My Documents are encrypted.. all of a sudden?

Hello,

I haven't used my pc in a while, came on today to find that I cant access any of my documents, getting access denied messages/dont have the correct privileges etc. All folders and files have turned green.

Any ideas? I really need to get into some of these docs!

Thanks

Why don't you try telling it to undo the file encryption

Time to run a serious virus/malware scan?

why do u think im asking for help on here? if i knew how to do it I would.

could you possibly tell me how, instead of trying (and failing) to be smart?

I think you have a virus/trojan.
Do a thorough anti viral and trojan check and a good clean.
Do not use an all in one like norton or any of the others. I feel they give you a false sense of security and its in their interest to have you on the hook!
Use a free anti viral eg. AVG, Avast and a cleaner like CCleaner.
The use of Spybot Search and Destroy would be useful.
I use all these about once a week or fortnight.
I use them in different order as they seem to have different abilities to seek out problems.

i have ran numerous antivirus/spyware programs.

it does just seem like regular encryption.. but i dont remember (im 99.999999999999999999% sure) i didnt set it.

if it was normal encryption, how would I decrypt?

can you access the files or are you not able to access the folders themselves?

if you cannot access the folders - try taking ownership of the folder

otherwise do a system restore

I attended a anti virus, malware lecture recently and this is the new mode of extorting money from people.

Basically these nasty coders load code onto the OS encrypt your data and ask for money for the key they used.

Its essential that to help deter the problem by patching OS and keep up to date with AV to at least try to help.

A system restore may help, but may not be available.

yes i use truecrypt. but it just encrypts one file that sits on my desktop, in what way would this of possibly affected my problem?
