my mum makes cards, she just uses any card thats strong enough to stay upright, too thin and itl bend. I did buy her a pack of ready made (cut to size and folded) cards in yellow and white from home bargains, think they came with envelopes and they were about 10 for £1
Embellishments she gets from places like the works, poundland, homebargains, she gets things like foil paper/card, foil confetti, u know the type that people often put in the envelope, some say happy birthday, some are stars, or balloons. u can get quite big bags from the above shops. The works is great for crafty things, u can get googly eyes, furry pompoms etc fro the crafty section, and mine has a stand full of card embellishments, like 3d butterflies, hats, etc, they come in sets.

Argos does good quality card packs, in White pastels or others all with coordinating envelopes

If you have a large Wilkinsons they have some card making things that are 'Create and Craft' branded (as in createandcraft.tv) they have different types of card that you can try out, card that is already folded, embellishments, and some of the tools like a craft knife, metal ruler, double sided tape, foam pads etc....
