I am trying to find out if this company is genuine as I ordered a Wii from them on the 28th May and was told on the website that it woukld take 7-10 days to be delivered.

After 10 days passed I emailed them and was told that they had a backlog and would despatch asap, a few days later I was told that they had just despatched the item by Parcel Force at the Post Office and were going back the following day to collect the tracking numbers.

It still didn't arrive today so I called them and was told that the item had been despatched last week but the had to recall them because they were European spec and that they had to wait for new stock before they could send it to us which should be next week.

Everythings sounds a bit dodgy to me. Has anyone had any dealings with them before?

VAT number is valid (look here), but has no Name or address attached to it.

The exact same website can also be found at adxhosting.com - same site, diff domain.

The reviews linked to above indicate their a bit shady. There's one review saying that they got their Wii after 3 weeks wait. There's no reason why the owner of the site could have just written that review.

OP, you probably checked out their legitimacy before you ordered something - not after you handed over your cash!!

To All SciTech Computers Customers

We would firstly like to APOLOGISE for any inconvenience we may have caused.

All customers who have received their products, we would like to THANK YOU for your custom.

To all other customers who have not received their products, they HAVE BEEN and WILL BE GIVEN A FULL REFUND. We are still processing refunds for our customers to date so please bare with us.

REASON why stock is not being sent out is because our business bank have held our funds for over a WEEK also on numerous occasions PREVIOUSLY, which meant we have no funds left to purchase more products to send out to our customers and our stocks have diminished. Also it meant that the delivery times were delayed, hence why we have had such bad reviews from customers.

We have are now in negotiation with our bank and hopefully we will be up and live again by Thursday this week.

However angry you may feel towards SciTech Computers Ltd we can only once again APOLOGISE on our behalf.

Hello

Yes I have ordered a Wii Fit & Board from this company on 17 June and money has been debited from my account I had an email from this company to say that all was UK Pal and that my order had been processed and I would received my goods within 7 - 10 days - I have since sent emails and tried calling with no answer from this company and the answerphone on the two numbers provided message says that the mailbox on T Mobile is full so will not take any further messages! I am really disappointed and hope this isnt a scam - as they have posted a reply on this forum but feel that I have not received any further information about the product ordered and have informed this company that I will take them to the Trading Standards office if nothing is received this week. This is your chance to put it right and sort this out.

One thing we can all do is email companies house and object to their application to be struck off. If the company is disbanded then the chance of ever getting any recovery is slim. If they are struck off then there will be no company to recover from.

Please email - [email protected]

With something like -

Hi,

I note that the following listed company is attempting to strike off.

SCITECH COMPUTERS LIMITED
UNIT 4 THE WHARF BUSINESS CENTRE
LOWER WHARF STREET
ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE
LANCASHIRE
UNITED KINGDOM
OL6 7PB
Company No. 05772004

Can I please put in an objection to this? They have been trading and taking money off customers since May this year and have not either delivered the goods or given a refund. They are uncontactable by either email or phone and are trying to escape their responsibilities to their customers. I am personally owed (ENTER YOUR AMOUNT HERE) and have not received either the product or a refund. Can you please advise that this objection has been lodged?

I also logged this on 08454 040506. This is the Consumer Direct Line for consumer advice. These complaints will in turn be passed to Tameside Trading Standards who are currently looking into the case.

They advised that anyone who has paid by Visa debit card can approach their bank to claim back the money. The scheme is called Visa Chargeback and covers you for any purchase even if it's under £100.

Happy claiming!!

I got this reply from the Companies House Enquiries.

"SCITECH COMPUTERS LIMITED - COMPANY NUMBER 05772004

Thank you for your letter email regarding the above company.

I can confirm that your objection has been registered and that the
dissolution action has been suspended for 12 weeks from the date of this
e-mail.

If you wish to maintain the objection after that date, you would need
to apply again in writing enclosing documentary evidence of what action
you are taking against the company. This evidence should be received at
least 2 weeks before the objection expires.

Yours Sincerely, "

I hope more people have done this, so we can at least try and get somewhere.

I'm going to take advice from my bank, and then some legal advice. Can't let them get away with this..

I also have found out some information about the people who run the company. I was told they had them in stock the day before I ordered. So I will be taking this as far as possible.

3. What rights do I have as an e-consumer?

Under distance selling regulations (which apply only in the EEA) you have the right:

to have the sale and delivery of goods completed within 30 days of your order (unless the parties to the sale agree otherwise);
to a refund as soon as possible, and in any case within 30 days if the goods you ordered are unavailable;
to return goods within seven days of their receipt, and require a refund (the supplier is entitled to deduct the costs of carriage). There are exceptions for perishable goods, custom-made goods, and dated goods (such as magazines);
to cancel a payment where goods have been ordered through unauthorised or fraudulent use of your credit or debit card.

Distance selling covers Internet sales, mail order and telephone sales. The UK Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 (which implements an EU directive) requires the seller to provide customers with specific information on:

the main characteristics of the goods;
the price, including any taxes and delivery costs;
payment arrangements;
guarantees; and
where to address complaints about the goods.

It would appear that this company has been, and possibly still is, trading fraudulently. At the very least the owner, Mr Akhtar, is a serial liar. For instance, the link to their website for the laptop that I ordered on 20 June, the Acer Aspire 6930g, (they had no trouble in processing my payment immediately), stated that it was in stock, yet Mr Akhtar now says on his website that the reason for lack of stock is because his bank, RBS, has frozen his funds. If Mr Akhtar was still accepting money in the full knowledge that he had no stock, nor the means to buy any, yet was advertising that he did have stock, this is clearly fraudulent.

It appears they are not going to respond at all to any correspondence. They have had their chance.

I suggest the following, bear in mind the more people complain, the greater chance we can get our hard earnt money back.......

www.insolvency.gov.uk/complaintformcib.htm

Try watchdog and the oneshow as well on BBC website. Citizens Advice Bureau?
Any other suggestions?

I'm not gonna rest til I get a refund or some action taken against these people. I am furious that they can get away with this. Let's not sit back, and let them get away with it.

Has anyone had contact/refund/information? If not and it's past 30 days, then they have broken EU distance selling regulations.

Hi
I too have had dealings with company ordered wii on 3rd June and they took money out of my visa on 6th June,eventually told them to cancel my order on the 16th June,did this via their live chat system because it was impossible to get through on their constantly engaged phone lines,was told money would be refunded straight away but would take a few days to show on my account.Guess what, it never did,when I saw the message on their web site contacted Halifax and filed a dispute.Yesterday after reading posts both here and elsewhere emailed company house and received reply as others have,however when I have logged onto my visa account today I have seen the dispute resolved and the money has gone back onto my account,THANK GOD ! Wish all you other members the very best luck ,and wish all at scitech computers the very best of getting whats coming to you,YOU DESERVE IT!!

Contacted bank (natwest) ans said should be sorted by their chargeback in 2-3 weeks. Took me a while to get through to right place tho! about 4-5 seperate phone calls, not to mention being transferred to wrong place. will see what happens in a few weeks then.

Also taking legal advice, and have managed to get information about background etc. They appear to be trying to vanish, but have a way of tracking things!!

Hope everyone gets sorted, but if not, hope can take matters further one way or another!!

Hi,

I too have been GOT with Scitech Computers. Ordered a Wii console on the 17th June 2009.
YOU KNOW THE REST!!!!!

No delivery, no refund. Their telephone inbox is FULL. Their emails now come back to me.
I paid £139.99 on my DEBIT CARD (big mistake, can get no refund from Bank, as used a debit card and not a credit card).

I have never had a problem with ordering from the Internet before!! But now will make sure I
order from a reputable company, and WON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN!!!

Will send complaint to the emails and telephone numbers listed here, thank you for that.

Have you checked with your branch at the bank? I was told not able to get a refund, but phoned the bank to discover natwest offer a chargeback similar to the visa debit one.

Good Luck
#20
Yes, have contacted my branch and bank and was told they could do nothing, as it was paid via a debit card!!!

Worst of all I have now a Wii Fit board and no Wii console to play it on!!!

Thanks for advice anyway.
#21
oh well looks like I have been ripped off as well. Paid with my Natwest Switch card and have been told there is nothing that I can do..... I have checked with companies house and it looks like they are being Proposal to Strike off.

I am however making a complaint to the police at the weekend and I suggest you all do the same. This way if they are charged then you might have a chance to claim back your money

Dear all
I have reviewed all your comments on this forum and other similar public forums in relation to this Company. I also placed an order with this company on 22 May 2009 for a Wii and have not received my refund. I understand all your frustration in trying to get back your refund and not getting any responses from the Company and the Banks being unhelpful regarding debit transactions rather than credit card transactions.
The director(s) of this Company has lodged an application to Companies House on 1 July 2009 to strike it off the register and I see a few parties have submitted emails to Companies House to successfully block their application to strike off the Company. If the director(s) were trading while the Company was insolvent (ie. still taking money from consumers) then simply striking the Company off the Companies House register will not dissolve their criminal liability in breach of the Companies Law. There are several examples whereby Courts were prepared to pierce the "corporate veil" and held directors and officers of a company personally liable and accountable for the debts of the company to both secured and unsecured creditors (ie. consumers).
If you are one of the directors of Scitech Computers Limited and you are reading these comments, you should take prudent action to immediately refund all your customers who have legitimately placed an order and have not been refunded or received delivery or face the stress of legal actions to recover these debts and possibly criminal sanctions.
Clearly the Company still has assets as it has not been put into voluntary administration. In any event, I hope the relevant authorities will have recourse to the personal assets of the directors of this Company and that they face not only criminal prosecution for fraudulent trading while insolvent but also be disbarred from trading or being a director of any other company in future.
