Do you need it to be in the centre of Manchester or will the surrounding areas do ?

TLH Auctioneers (Tommy Higham's place) has had some real bargains in the past.
You can buy almost anything - old, new, modern.antique, electrical, furniture etc, etc, - Some great bargains there.
His place is off Rochdale/Shaw Rd in Oldham and there are 2 auctions a week.
Google is your mate here :D

Simon Charles, if you want new stuff. There auctions are on Wednesdays and Thursdays in Ashton under Lyne.

Read the ads at the back of the MEN on Fridays. That's when the auctions are advertised.
Reread your post and note that you want to know what the auctions are like from personal experience.

I've been to both Highams and Simon Charles in the past. Both have had good bargains, but as with any auction the preview is the big deal. There will always be the odd lot that is damaged so you need to look at the stuff you are interested in very carefully. They ask for ID proof of address also.

Thanks i'll check them out, i'm thinking second hand real wood furniture might be a bit more sturdy than new flat pack stuff
