I suffered with anxiety for a long long time,About 3 years infact. I used to get them ALL the time i was constantly checking my pulse etc... I was on Propranolol this seemed to help quite abit with them.

im putting it down to being pregnant but they are scary .in the past they have said they are anxiety related but im not anxious about anything at the mo apart from these palpitations

Its an anxiety attack, your body goes into 'survival' mode as if your being chased by a bear, increases heart rate and adrenaline, caused by....... you guessed it, anxiety !

Just because you dont think you're anxious doesnt mean your not

I get them every now and then; I got a bit freaked a few years ago and insisted my doc sent me to be fully MOTd at the hospital, even though he said they were common and nothing to worry about. So, I went for my MOT. And the conclusion - nothing to worry about.

lol that will prob be what he says to me
i didnt worry about them b4 but now that i have them so frequently it is making me worry and am constantly checking my heartbeat/pulse
it feels like my heart flips over then beats fast for a few sec then normal again but sometimes they are seconds apart
seem to be worse at night when im relaxed for some reason :?

Yeh it was horrible, Felt lonely and it seemed to be worse at night times when i felt 'alone' ... I had an ECG and UltraSound of the heart as i was convinved i had something wrong with my heart and no matter how much i was told i was fine i couldnt accept it. I was only 16 at the time and i wasnt fully over it until i was about 19. Its not very nice but its almost Certain its anxiety as im sure your doctor will probably say to you.

Thats becasuse you have nothing else to think about at night and your brain is idle so starts worrying about things like heartbeats... and belive me, if you're checking your pulse every few minutes, you're anxious

yeah ur right,thanks for that
the thing is im so used to living with it now that i think i have got used to the anxiety and class it as normal if that makes sense

i have convinced myself i have had every illness etc in the past and even brought on symptoms on myself..weird
then when i see doc and he tells me im ok (again) the symptoms go :?

I think the more you think and worry about it the worse it gets; best to occupy yourself if you feel it brewing inside

I too have suffered anxiety and have been prescribed propanolol which is extremely effective as it's a betablocker (slows your heart down ) I found that good relaxation helps, maybe music or a good soppy film

i dont think i have ever been given propanol
i have tried all sorts but name doesnt ring a bell
the last lot i was on was citalopram and diazepam but i have to go back and see doc at 14weeks of pregnancy so i can go back on them anyway i was 14 weeks on fri so will go back tomorrow i think

i would rather not take them in pregnancy but midwife advises i do as she says things might get alot worse with post natal depression once baby is born and they take a good while to work so she said best to start back on them during pregnancy

I was also on diazepam for a short while, thats really good at relaxing the brain... i was only on them for a short while as the Doc didnt want me getting hooked as he said they can be addictive.

How are you doing now hun?

I always suffered far more anxiety and panic attacks whenever I was pregnant also x x

not been yet,the thing with our docs u have to phone them at 8.15 or u have no chance of getting in,i have all the kids to get ready for school at that time and cant sit around for 15mins waiting to get through to receptionist
plus we got the builders here today so a bit hectic, cant be anything serious i hope seen as they are just worse in the evening
#27
vinylandtrinkets
it might be stress what with the builders in, I would try and see your GP hun , best to be safe ,might be due to your pregancy, i never had them while i was pregnant but my friend did and they were really strong( just phoned her to check) the GP told her it might be because of her pregnancy and raging hormones, worrying about the birth ,labour etc.

If you need to chat you know where we are hun, hope they stop soon.

thanks for that and 4 ringing ur friend :)
yeah mine are strong too, they scare me,wont be the builders they just turned up today out the blue
i will update thread later if they start again,i just want to know if i can take my diazepam but it seems all medicines these days say consult a doc first
do u think receptionist would ask doc 4 me?at least i can see then if they are better when i take them
banned#28

HI love

All i can say is that my palpatations are anxiety related. Even when i dont feel stressed i can get them. They are not nice and quite worrying at first until you realise its your body reacting.
I would suggest to get it checked by a doc , they may even do a ECG to rule out other things.

I was given propapinol ( i think) which is a milk beta blocker which regulates the palpatations and you can also be given a short term use of diazepam. ( i carry them with me )

I strongly suggest some relaxation, deep breathing once a day. It REALLY helps me.
Focus and done properly it does re balance your bodys stress level.

If you need anything else chick Pm me.

MILD -- not milk !! lolll
#34
Stop worrying about them and then they will go away
I still get them now after having a heart valve replaced in 1995, but after it was explained to me that everyone gets them but you have to learn to tune them out.

With my titanium heart valve when I get a "flutter" in my pulse rate it tends to feel like a ripple going all over my body starting from the heart and radiating out like a ripple in a pond.
So keep smiling and be happy

There was a med I used to take that seemed to give me palpitations. Told the consultant who said it was unlikely. I stopped taking the med and problem stopped. Try to be aware of when they are occuring and anything you have done before getting them. Think of how you felt just before getting them cos really could be stress related
#38
im not on any meds atm
i try my best to forget about them but i can be busy doing something and they just start they seem to be worse when im resting
i dont know if im anymore anxious than i normally am,i just hope they are nothing to worry about
banned#39
My Fiancee gets them now and again the doctor said its just normal that some people get them and not to worry. My advice would be to go to the doctor to get it cheked out though!

does anyone else have heart palpitations?

Only when I see my credit card bill!

Seriously, any problems/worries with your heart, get straight to the doctor's. Even if the doctor is busy the practice nurse will look at you.
