Does anyone happen to have a Ubiquio 503g 'QC' cable?

Hi all,

I recently acquired a Ubiquio 503g WM smartphone and I want to (well, need to) upgrade the existing Radio Rom on the device. The manufacturer supplied the device with 2 types of USB cables - a regular one to sync it / charge it, and a yellow tipped 'QC' (Qualcomm) cable for the first Radio upgrade.

The yellow tipped cable is what I'm missing from the box and there's no other way to do the first upgrade than to use this cable (after the upgrade you're able to do everything else including other Rom upgrades using microsd cards)

If anyone has this cable I'd really appreciate borrowing it so I can flash my phone, then of course I'd send it back to you and pay for postage to/from me.

Can anyone help me out?

Cheers!

I never knew there was 2 types of USB cables for the phones , yet I dont have your particular model . I own both the Ubiquio 410 & Ubiquio 301 models ,smashing phones they are too , but were only supplied with one USB [mini] cable . The 410 has TV & FM radio but I've never needed to flash any firmware . Have you tried fleabay for cables ??

ps , try the expansys site and see if there is any accessories as this was the company who sold them .

Yeah I've checked fleabay, but unless they're sold under another guise I can't find what I'm looking for!

For some god-only-knows what reason, MWg used the old '2 cable' method for this phone which is corrected after ROM version 2.06 so all other flashing can be done via usb/microsd. Unfortunately the device I got hold of comes with the ancient-Egypt style stock firmware that's ridden with bugs and requires that cable for the upgrade. The cable forces the phone into 'service' mode when it's switched off, similar to the data cables sold for older phones for unlocking and so on.

Trawled through the Expansys forums and elsewhere but everything points to needing this cable for the initial upgrade.

Agree with you - very underrated little devices. I've been through plenty of older HTC phones this year as I love a challenge (I can now gut a Hermes with my eyes closed) and am currently using a Ubiquio 501 until I work out what I want next (and save some money ;) Shame updates and support faded into obscurity, but with a little Googling and good old xda-devs I've managed to have my 501 running perfectly and doing plenty I want it to do, minus the 3g of course, which is why I want to give the 503g a spin.

Bump - someone here must have one of these cables! There's a thread on Modaco from the beginning of 2008 asking the same question with no replies, I know we can do better than that here!

Thanks for trying mate! I've Googled 'til the cows come home and checked all the usual suspects and nothing. The 503g deals were popular on here when it was being produced so someone must have this cable lying around somewhere.... I'll even upgrade anyone else's phones to the latest radios and wm6 roms to help out while I have the cable if anyone would like it done and are a little wary of doing it themselves. Then again, I'm sure everyone's moved on from this phone by now and such a cable is hidden far away in the depths of their attic drawers!

With my M900, going from not having a headphone output to having a headphone output went like this:

1) Googled for, and found, a forum dedicated to Acer phones
2) Someone wrote up a guide on how to mod the bundled headset into a standard headphone output
3) Someone else worked out the internal wiring of the10-pin MiniUSB connector thing
4) Someone after that worked out that the M900 was basically just built upon the same motherboard as various members of the iPaq family, and was fully compatible with loads of iPaq mini-USB to 3.5mm adaptors

The same evolution will have happened for your Ubiquio. Try searching to find out what your phone is a rebrand of or what it's mini-USB is compatible with, and you might be in luck.

Been on the case with that mate, the 503g is a rebranded TechFaith Perai H and no accessories are available for that. i-Mate rebranded the 501 but as far as I know and from what I can tell the 503g hasn't had any other guises. This Qualcomm cable is used solely for the first radio upgrade which is what's making it so hard to come across...perhaps it's used on older 10-pin miniusb devices to do such 'single' upgrades, which I shall check into now.

Proper detective work needed for a device that's a couple of years old - eXpansys/MWg/Ubiquio/whatever name they were selling under were very 'hit n run' with these devices. Shoved them on the market then fled when issues began to arise. www.mwg.com is now up for sale so I guess that the brand's well and truly gone, for now!
