To make you understand im thinking instead of listing indivual things im going to sell and taking up a whole page and aload of bandwidth from my hosting server i want to like put like all the pictures on my hosting then create like a gallery so only like 10 small pictures are shown but when clicked they show the full size image, or some idea similar.

Thanks if any help as i know how to make a gallery on a webpage but in order to do that i would have to say my websites url address which could be seen as me attempting to guide people off the forum.

is that like in photobucket, i cant remember who but a member did that on here, you clicked on the link and all her stuff was like in an album, sorry if that isnt what you mean
#2
probely like photobucket although ive never had a photo bucket account or hotlinked photos so i dont know really what you mean. = re read yea its like an album you get like 10 small photos that shows a tiny jpg of the image but when you click it, it loads to the full picture.

but might be the same, even if i can get shortened down size photos that when you click on them they load to the bigger picture, im just thinking of so i dont use up a whole page of pictures that are full size and normally when people see that they just decide not to bother seeing anything else. plus with users with slower internet or would you be allowed to like post a link to a part of your website were a Html page exists with the picture of all your things fo sale.

Do you mean something like this:?

Or this? (Just click on the small thumbnail image in the toolbar) Think this one is particularly cool! Easy to do also!

Or this? (No good unless you have a Mysql database you can use!)
#5
Yes you can definitely do it through Photobucket. (free)

What you need to do is go to create slideshow
Choose strip style
add your photo's
save

Ok having tested that it does not work on here, sorry. Have a look at the link below though and see if that's what you wanted :)

Wont that just be hosted on "photobucket" though? Thought the OP wanted to use his own webspace?

I think they want to sell some stuff on here guv and want to use that format.

Anyway I can't make it work on here although I'm sure i have seen someone do it before ??
#9
Ok I see what you mean Guv, sorry misread the OP.

Well they know something like it exists on photobucket now , lol.

Hmmm. Not really sure then! You certainly cant use html so that not going to be possible using code. (links and images are bbcode)

However, he can insert an animated gif. Not the best solution in the world - but at least it keeps it within the site (albeit leeching the image from his webspace.)

Ah.

I think I know what he might mean.... I will give it a go and see if it works!!!!!!!

Probably not going to be the "real thing" in what he does want - but likely to be the best he can hope for!!!!

OK - here goes.....

Fingers crossed!!!!

EDIT: Yup that works!

Obviously you just need to upload all images and add them as normal, then insert a link around the BBcode that shows the image on the forum. Add as many as you like I guess. Just click on each thumbnail and off you go!!!)

Job done?

#13

He he - but he might think its rubbish and not what he meant at all!:p

Have to say it would be great if html could be used on the forum. I completely know why it isnt, just a shame. That second link I posted would be superb to use (on a small scale!) Good bit of software that!!!! All automatic - but you need to use it within dreamweaver to make life very easy.

No, not directly within the forum. html code (and javascript) isnt allowed. If it was, the site could get hit and brought down PDQ. It could be done though - but it ain't ever gonna happen.

Good question.

Not completely sure, but it could be they are using frames. (ie the html is seperate and just fills the space.)

eg like my littluns website: Just use the menu and you will get the gist!

Yeh, he spent hours writing all the code for the lego stuff!!! :p:whistling:

Keeps him happy anyway!

The other boys one was going to be a real corker - but decided that using the actual content hook line and sinker from the dinosaur part of the natural history museum was going a bit too far!!!!:whistling:

What's wrong in that, there are plenty of external links here, if you'd rather not post it them PM it to me and I'll look, if you can already make a gallery, (depending on code: html or PHP etc....) then as a starting point look here:

http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/

Or do you mean you want the thumbnails to generate a larger picture when posting the thumbnails here in the forum ?

Sidenote: Any decent hacker could bring this site down without it allowing html (or JS) in it's comments

That maybe so, but I doubt they would want to assist the rubbish ones by leaving a glaring hole though!

Thats brill Guv, i can do that with html to make a gallery but what do i do to get the pics that size to click through to a bigger image on the forum, like you've done there. yes i have a sql database asfar as im aware aswell as full php. its not that im worried out my bandwidth as much as i get like 250gb a month bandwidth but i just dont want the whole page on the forum filled with item pictures, aswell as faster page loading for lower internet usage for slower internet users.

like if i had 10 items for sale for example and 5 of them where computer related and the other 5 was random stuff each picture i can compress but i loss quality of the picture but in the sameway a whole forum page could be just take up all the pictures meaning people would be loading all the full size images when maybe they could only be looking for a random picture of an item plus it would eat away over time a big bit of bandwidth but more for the idea of simplier usage so members can choose which picture they want to open.

Thanks, so how did you do that GUV?

Now, Im assuming from what you just asked about resizing, that you are a bit of a novice? (No offence intended!)

With this in mind, to help, I'd like to ask a few questions which will assist me in understanding your level etc - though I can still set things up if you gave me access to your webspace account. That way, I can setup a gallery that you would just manage yourself (and then reset your webspace password!!!!)

So which method from the first links did you prefer?? Personally from what I think you are trying to do, I would suggest the second one (and then also I wouldnt need to set things up!!!) However, you would need to use dreamweaver to get it started. (You can download a 30 day free trial - but you may need to think again if this will be ongoing. Of course there are ways around this...... but I'll leave you with that thought!

Either of those methods above, will automatically resize things for you and be displayed in your own webspace.

To display here as thumbnails, just right click on the image you want to use and select properties. Highlight the URL it shows for the image (make sure you get the whole link) and press ctrl C.

Once you have the link and are ready to post here, click on the image symbol in the toolbar (the yellow box with mountains and sun - I think!!) This inserts the image. Paste the URL you just got into the popup and press enter.

Then, do the same process with the image you want it to link to get the larger image URL.

Highlight the text that you have just created... it will look like http://yourpicture.jpg

Then click on the link in the toolbar (Earth and link image). Now paste the larger image URL into the popup and enter.

You have now created a thumbnail image that will open up an image on your webspace.

You may want to get things more complicated... but one step at a time.

Obviously if you want to add lots of thumbnails and links to big images, you just repeat the above.

Now to resize your images, if you're not going to use one of the methods mentioned, just google "image resize" and you will get a multitude of freeware software that will do this for you.

Have a go...

Everything you see above is done with NO html being used at all.

The images can just be placed in a folder in yoru webspace and then its just bbcode that does the rest with the WYSIWYG editor.
