I am trying to build up muscle and gain a bit of weight.

Does anyone have any good advice that has actually worked for them?

Rep will be left for helpful tips.

i would say majority of people will suggest protein shakes and exercise

Creatine as above.
Make sure you eat loads of protein like red meats, chicken etc after working out.
Go to the gym regularly and do weights.

Erm, your gym should happily tell you how to become a beefcake with what works for you! If they don't - change gyms! I'm sure you need lots of mirrors and slogans what ever you do.

If you are in or near sheffield, we have some weights and a bench out back that the previous tenant left and doesn't seem to be picking up you can have! Not sure of the nick they are in but would be happy to get rid of them!

To build muscle, when using weights, put it on near max of what you can lift and do only a handful of slow reps, say 5-10 slow reps. For toning, set it to a lighter weight, and lift away for as long as possible.

Food as above have said, lots of meat and protein shakes!

at that weight and height, I wouldn't personally go out an buy an protein shake, there called supplements because they supplement your diet (which I doubt you have :p).

Look on back of food packets and try to eat about 2500kcals a day to start with, in around about 5/6 meals a day. Try to get your kcals from proper food like poetaoes,oats, eggs,meats instead of cookies/chocolates because they wont help you put on muscle.

more calories = More mass

go to the gym 3times a week, and work your legs!!!! ( I dont care if you walk 3hours a day or play football twice a week, make sure you work them!!!

when you join ask the person working there to show you the ropes, stick to free weights to pack on the muscle .

sound advice, believe it or not certain exercises that you think are working your legs will actually help with overall body gain eg squats. Today was my leg day and i can hardly get up the stairs without moaning and they will ache all tomorrow but you GOTTA do it!

And just out of interest, why wouldn't you reccomend a protein shake?

I do generally eat well. I always have a peice of meat with my dinner. Over the last 2 months i recon i have had 10 takeaways but i don't think i have put on any weight at all.

And why should i work my legs more than my arms?

dunno about that like.......depends what the meal is, if its just before bed i would recommend some casein based protein like a tub of quark or a shake, dont really wanna be downing carbs before bedtime.

Anyway best advice i can give you is to just get you @rse to a gym, you will be suprised how friendly people are and willing to teach you stuff, i learn stuff now still after years of going. someone always has tips or techniques i havent heard before ;)

get test doping free ones as well if u are doing it for sport as they dont show up in tests (no banned substances) unlike for example steroids

I went from size 34 to 28 waist..tried eating loads of junk food to help me put the weight back on..I was advised by a dietitian to use Fortsip which I got perscribed by my Doctor for 2 months..they use it in the hospitals a lot. Was told it is the equivalent of eating 2 mars bars per drink. More info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortisip

I also bought from Holland & Barret A tub of Weider Crash Weight Gain and Holland and Barrets own branded Muscle and Weight Gainer http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/product_detail.asp?pid=427 which after using both products for over 3 months I put on weight..now upto a 32 inch waist which hopefully I can keep. Hope this helps.

not alot, it aint very good either, your only 9 stone you don't really need a protein shake. At that weight if you eat enough you will on weight easy, and just be wasting money on protien shakes.

The thing is though i do eat enough. I eat 3 good meals a day. I eat lots of fatty foods aswell. Yet for some reason i just fail to gain weight.

No matter what i have tried i am unable to put on the pounds.

I used to be like that and a male friend of mine. He tried the weight gain and never put on any weight. Some people just dont.

I seem to eat loads and go to the gym loads but I never put on weight or muscle mass...Reminds me of the sketch on Family Guy with hitler in the gym...thats me (the situation not Hitler himself :whistling:)

well there's your problem, 3 meals a day, if you serious about putting on muscle you need to eat more then that son, it aint easy

Lol bottom line must be that you simply aint eating enough!!! Try 5-6 meals a day, gotta get them calories down ya boy!!!

And if you went to the gym and were not putting on muscle then you werent working out properly mate, see kids all the time join the gym and come in and do 3 rubbish sets of bad form then stand around for half an hour, you gotta get your form right on exercises, use youtibe to see correct form for stuff, this sounds ridiculous but out of my whole gym ive only seen one other person lately doing bicep curls properly!!! . Put the work in diet wise and gym wise and you will get big, fact.

So what kind of foods should i be eating?

Should they all be large meals?

If someone could give me a rough daily food plan it would be much appricated.
