Does anyone have any ideas how I can get a Ford Focus ST for my Birthday?

Hi everyone,

It's now 8 days til my 21st and everyone has been asking "What would you like for your birthday?" and in a Noel Edmonds - Deal Or No Deal fashion reply, I say "There is nothing I want......except one thing, a Ford Focus ST!"

For those of you who don't know what I'm on about, here is a photo of the beast!

http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/2005geneva/ford_focus_st_01.JPGhttp://www.rsportscars.com/foto/2005geneva/ford_focus_st_01.JPG

Now, it doesn't exactly come cheap, the base model comes in at £17,500! But with the extras I want (including that lush orange paint - just £695!! Bargain!), it comes to £23,515!!!

I've been nagging my parents for one since whenever it came out, and thought there was no better time to ask for one!

Sadly, I think I am fighting a losing battle :( I think I'll only get a little MatchBox type model at best!

Unless, any of the wonderful people who help make up the HotUKDeals forum can come up with a way, or if not more, of getting one parked outside the house on the 19th of July!

Thanks in advance!

Fingers crossed! :D

lol, when I said to my mum "I'd like to learn to drive" the first thing she said was "You arent ready to drive yet" closely followed by "You can do it but you have to pay for everything yourself"

If you get a 20 grand car given to you, the world just isnt fair!

But needless to say I paid and still do pay for everything car related (apart from the useful gift of antifreeze at Christmas..) and have about 8 grand of debt but a nice Peugeot 306 left over to show for the 6 years of driving! Although saying that, I think I've paid off quite a bit of the car debt over the years ;)

Oh and if you do get a new car, even if it is a Ford Ka or something that isn't quite up to the ST's scratch, please please please be eternally greatful that your parents have added that money onto the growing cost of bringing you into the world, rather than being disappointed! :)

If only I'd have been given a car! But its good to work for things you want rather than be handed them on a plate, as then you appreciate it all that little bit more I think?

If your parents buy you a Ford Ka say to them "Are you thick? Does that look like the one I pointed out? Next time you send me to the shop for some milk I will come back with a bottle of Pepsi and see how you like it!"

Only kidding mate. You could always do what that guy did with a paper clip and eventually swapped it for a house, but for you it would be a ST!!

I think you should be happy with the d option and buy your parents a new car instead :D

What you could do is walk round saying (i cant believe it mum and dad are getting me a St for my birthday) be very tactful and only say it when you have mates around and when your parents can hear you.

Go for the next best thing and ring your local Ford dealer and book a test drive for your birthday. Then just keep driving until them blue lights behind you call for a stinger.

Thanks for all your replies! I'll just add a few things to what you've all said:

nrps1,

I know I will not get one, no matter how much I beg or cry! The world sadly isn't a fair place anyway, and I agree with everything you have said. I have "bought" a car myself (down the same loan road as you), and I have paid for absolutely everything else associated with it and driving as a whole myself. The only thing I haven't bought is my personalised numberplate which was an 18th birthday present. Everything else has come out of my own back pocket. I have had cousins who have had everything paid for by their parents, driving lessons, cars, insurance (and paid out to repair damage so they didn't have to go through their insurance!) and although I am jealous and quite envious, I am proud of what I have done. Driving isn't cheap as it is, so if I bare that in mind, I will be more cautious on the road so not to cause any damage to my car. I also had more of an incentive to pass my driving test as I had to keep paying something like £90 per test day. Didn't really work though as it took me 4 times, but never mind!

If I was to be bought it for my birthday, I would be so grateful, words couldn't express how grateful and thankful I would be! But again, you are right, I would much rather work towards it and do it for me and do it my way.

I did post this thread as a bit of a laugh, just to see what people would say, and I would have said near enough the same as you!

SAFC1BeerMonster,

If they bought me a KA, I wouldn't be happy as that would in effect be going back a step as I already have a 2003 Fiesta! I'm not being ungrateful or anything, but a Fiesta is as small as I could go as I tend to drive to gigs with a few other people, and it's quite cramped with 3, let alone 4 or 5 like it is supposed to take!

I wouldn't leave the house if they asked me to get some milk if they pulled that stunt! If they forced me out of the house to buy it, I would take the money, and buy a scratch card with it and some jelly beans! I'd say "There was some milk there, but I got sidetracked and saw these magic jelly beans! There was also this pot of gold, well, scratchcard! You can have these beans and grow the milk, and I'll have the scratchcard and hope I win enough to buy an ST!" :D

I doubt I would be as lucky as that paper clip bloke. Something doesn't quite add up with that whole thing.

Rayman,

I could do, I really could.

However....

They have just bought a new 2nd hand car themselves!

HOW DIS-RESPECTFUL IS THAT?! lol :D

I phoned my mum to ask her to buy me something, and asked her where she was and she was saying at Dad's buying a car! I got all excited thinking it was for me, but no! They got the car last night and so that ruined the illusion for me!

chambo,

I could do that, but I don't often have people over and I think if I mention those 2 letters together again, I will be 6 feet under within a week or 2!

Syzable,

The ironic thing is, my dad works for a Ford Dealership and I have begged him to get me a test drive in one. Instead of having to go with a salesperson who knows there is no chance in hell that I could buy it/get pressured into anything/drive like a sane person, I could go with him and go that bit further out and put my foot to the floor that bit more! :D

BUT...

The company who insures Test Drives will not allow anyone under 25 to test drive an ST!!! I can get insurance for the car myself, about £1000, which makes it even worse!

Never mind! One day!

hehe well I'm just sticking to believing it's not serious (sorry!).

I was going to link to the paper clip guy too ducky!

If you write to Jimmy Savile asking really nicely if you can Test Drive one then he might even let you go to see some get made and everything!!

I'll never forget the lad who wanted to "go to heathrow to see some planes" and they flew him all the way to Florida to a plane factory to watch some get made!! That's not waht he asked for Jimmy, lol.

Hi everyone,

Some Stuff

Fingers crossed! :D

I think you'd be better off donating £23k to that handsome blonde chap opposite.

Hehe, welcome to HUKD Not Gareth.

giving an 18 year old a performance car is similar to giving a machine gun to a gorilla.

When you're old enough to buy one yourself, you might have the driving ability and maturity to be able to drive it too !
#16
Thats a bit harsh Bobbajob! & besides he is gong to be 21 not 18

So what happens when middle aged business men are doing a ton plus on the motorway in their BMW M3s?! Are they mature? Do they have the ability to drive at those speeds? Are they safe driving at those speeds?

I think not.

But like I said, I only posted this for a bit of a laugh to see what people would say/what advice they would give me.

I know full damn well I am not going to get one and I wouldn't accept it as a gift. Easy to say I know, but I would not want my parents having to fork that kind of money out for me. I would not want to be seen as spoilt as I would then be a hypocrite from what I have previous said.

Gareth, or should be NotGareth,

I could donate that £23K to you, I really could.

However, what people DON'T know is you:

a) are my BOSS, therefore earning more than me
b) own a soft top Lotus Elise! So what would you want with an ST?!
c) Are not actually blonde as I can see some (well, I say some, quite a few!) grey hairs appearing! :D

I saw an orange ST today exactly the same as in the picture you posted at a garage near by.

It was parked OUTSIDE!!
#20
Ducky! You're not helping! :( I've seen loads! I have been tempted to ram them off the road, but I couldn't hurt my car nor there's!

I bet you are a good 100 miles away from me, so I think that Focus ST isn't going to be for me! :( lol
#21
I was just wondering how they dared keep it outside with that beautiful paint??

I'd rather have a Dodge Viper though. They're about £250,000 though, lol.

I've always fancied making a kit car to be honest. My dad's keen on them too so he'd lend a hand. Does anyone know how much they're likely to cost??

check out the robin hood cars (yes awful name)

very very cheap compared to a cateram
#23
didn't mean to be harsh, but it's just a fact of life, fast cars cost more to buy/run/insure. If they didn't every young lads first car would be a gti/turbo etc.

As for doing 100 mph on the motorway in a BMW M3, thats probably a lot safer than doing 60 around the local McDonalds drive thru with 4 mates crammed in the back as most young lads around my area seem to do.

No offence intended to the OP.

I always wondering why people are buying performance cars in this country. When I was driving down M1/M25 in beemer M3, I felt so sorry to the car...
80-80-(dang, what this S-reg Almera is doing in fast lane?!) - 60-60-50-70-80-80-50-30-20-0-(why can't those roadworkers actually work? at night, preferrably)-10-0-10-0-10-0-0-0-0-0-10-50-80-50-20-20-10-(scheiss, roadworks again) and so on.

After doing it for several weeks, I was really tired and car felt tired too. That's why I no longer drive M3 but using rather dull automatic Mondeo... And guess what? In this country I'd rather drive Mondeo then Beemer. :)

Well, here we are. Eve of my 21st, I come home from shopping for an outfit for my night out on friday around 7 o'clock and see this parked outside my house!

http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/6328/img0138gf2.th.jpg\ alt=\http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/<a class=\bbcode_url link link--hoverUnderline\ href=\http://img469.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0138gf2.jpg\ target=\_blank\ rel=\nofollow\>[IMG]http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/6328/img0138gf2.th.jpg\ /></a>

Now, what I want to be able to say is!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your help, advice and suggestions! It worked, and I am the happiest man alive! And this is where I will get all the "spoilt little brat" remarks, or insults/words stronger than that!

But, I know people on here aren't thick!

Why would I be sat on the Internet, writing this IF I ACTUALLY HAD THE CAR?!

My "parents" have managed to get it on "loan" from where my Dad works. It is a demonstrator car where all the people who want to test drive it take it out for a spin.

Imagine my face from seeing it, thinking all my dreams, christmas' and birthdays had rolled into one and thinking I had the best parents EVER - to this. Depressed and thinking what could have been, and wondering how easy it is to disown parents! :D

All of this has been posted with tongue in cheek. I'm thankful for what I have, and for the trouble and effort that my parents have gone through. I even managed to have a ride in it, sadly in the passengers seat and not in the hot seat that is the cockpit! Trying to tell myself that it isn't worth it, and like my Dad said "It drives just the same as any other car", which he is right when he says that. But he did say it with a smile on his face. He was loving the attention! He said that people do look and stare when they see it! Even when I was talking to my Nan, someone walked past it and his eyes were fixed on it, he could not take his eyes off it! Lucky for him that the lampost in the street was a few yards further down, otherwise that would have been a "You've Been Framed" moment! An easy £200 to go to my Focus ST Fund!

Never mind. Thanks for putting up with me!

And Bobbajob, no hard feelings. I know exactly what you mean, but I would imagine the cars that you see are ones like Nova's and Saxo's, bought for around 5K, modified to beyond recognition meaning they have spent at least double what they paid for it on suping the car up and it's just pointless. With a car like the ST, although you can modify it, there really is no need.

I'm off to cry myself to sleep and dream....
#26
I think it's actually £250 for You've Been Framed. ;)
#27
I thought they dropped it to £200, or it may be on Kirsty's Home Videos on Sky One that offer £200! Either way, if I go with £200, anymore is a bonus! :D

Sadly, I'm forgetting that nothing happened that was funny, nor did I have a video camera to hand! Oh nuts! :D
#28
Maybe they're just waiting until tomorrow before they tell you that you actually are keeping it. After all, it's not your birthday yet!! :D
#29
lol happy b'day for 2moro mate
i hope u do get the car
im doing something similar with my parents, i just turned 20 so i've got a year of hinting. altho my car's not as expensive lol

It's a lovely thought, however, me being me, I had a good snoop around the beast, every nook and cranny to see if I could find anything, but when I got to the boot, and found 2 black bin liners full of the salesman's clothes (as he is the lucky git who gets to drive it around everwhere), sadly the dream that maybe, just maybe, it could be mine is somewhat shattered! :(

Thanks rajpop. I do too! But I've suddenly become a realist! Funny how that happens and how quickly when you have cruel parents!

Aim high for the car you want, and when they buy you the car you want (potentially wishful thinking there!) they will feel guilty, and you could play the guilt trip up if you wanted to, but know deep down you got the car you want! :D

I'm evil I know, but I have to up my game and take after my parents! :D
#31
Where's the nearest motorway?? :)
#32
For me it's the M4, why do you ask? Or am I missing something really obvious?
#33
Drive down it as far as you can. Not that I condone that sort of behaviour. :(
#34
I don't want to get into trouble! I'm not insured or anything and my dad would get it if anything happened! I couldn't do such a thing........or could I?! :D

Slightly screwed if they get the police on to me. The colour near enough glows in the dark so it won't be hard to catch me, unless I put my foot to the floor......

Decisions decisions! :D
#35
lol, im still trying to decide if you have the cruellest parents or the nicest parents for going to all that trouble :)

lol!
#36
so did you get a car then?! :)
#37
As much as I want to say yes and it's the reason I've not been on here posting anything, I didn't get it! :( Never mind.

I always knew I wouldn't get it, but I cannot describe what went through my head when I saw one parked outside my house!

You have to choose the "cruellest parents" option. My Dad works for a Ford Dealership, so they were bound to have one as it's their new baby, and they would have one in orange to make sure everyone sees it! It was just a matter of asking for it and that was it. It was hardly any trouble at all! :D
