Blockbusters online dont, they use the type of card as verification that you are over 18 and as a person under the age of 18 can aquire a visa electron card, they dont accept this. it would mean that they would need an alternative wywtem in place to verify your age.

Quite a lot of places don't take Electron from the wiki (I know lol)

Visa Electron card accounts cannot be overdrawn. As a comparison, Visa Debit cards allow tranfers of unavailable funds below a certain limit. As a result, some online stores and all offline terminals (e.g. onboard trains or planes) do not support Visa Electron because their systems cannot check for the availability of funds.

In the United Kingdom, the card is not as widely accepted as the brother Visa Debit card, but is often issued by banks as a debit card for children's accounts. In some countries, like Australia, retailers are required to accept the card as part of VISA's Accept All Cards Policy, which also applies to the normal Visa Debit card, although the card is not available locally.[citation needed]

Tesco Groceries don't unless your bank upgrades your card

We accept the following method of payments:
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro, Solo, Delta, Clubcard Plus.
We don't accept Electron cards, cash, cheques or paper vouchers/coupons.
If you do have an Electron card please check with your issuing bank as they can upgrade your card to allow you to shop online with us.

Edit

My mistake I should have made it clearer, I meant Tesco online

a lot of shops won't take them instore either as you can't make an imprint of the card so their backup swipe machines won't take them

Thats funny it says on there website they don't

Dell accepts VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Maestro. Dell UK can only accept UK issued and billed credit cards. We do not accept Electron or Solo cards.

Thats weird lol. I brought the laptop around April time I think, so either its a recent implementation or its because i bought it off the business side of the site.

Or maybe my dad paid for it on his card lol. I don't actually remember.

Perhaps some banks upgrade Electron cards when the holder reaches 18 years of age.

I don't have one but my OH does and it annoys the hell out of her when she can't use it as she doesn't like using credit cards.
#32
So, I'll try it and see :)
#33
Hi , Odeon cinema doesn't take them.

are u sure its just the same as yours, but without the cheque guarantee bit? Which practically makes it an electron.

Not that it makes any difference tho lol, an electron will always go through the terminals, just the shops say no!

Off subject tho, it is quite shocking that someone so young needs such a debit card, it was cash cards when I was that age, and that was lucky lol!

oh ok lol.

As said a few posts above, try to get a card with barclays. You will end up with an overall better credit rating if you use a bank, and you should get a real debit card quicker.
