Does anyone know if this laptop is any good?

Can anyone tell me if this product is any good and if it is decent value for money?

I need a laptop for general home use and home study but would also like to use it for photos, music and to let my kids look at Cbeebies websites etc.

Any advice appreciated, I really don't know what I'm doing and to spend so much money is a bit scary!

Thank you

Seems ok to me. I would like to have at least one other USB port.
It is quite a powerful laptop. It also has a 17" screen which makes it rather large, but if it is not going to be carried around then I always feel a 17" is better than a 15" which is usual on "normal!" laptops.

Personally I would not buy an Advent make as they used to be mainly sold through "PC World/Currys" (although I think a few other places do them now) and you dont really know how they stack up against the competition.

Advent tends to be only a "brand name" stuck on laptops made by all sorts of companies so you have no idea of the build quality. Often the cheap laptops in supermarkets use these same companies and put their own product name on them.

I think you are better going for a quality brand that is sold all over the world and has a name to keep up.

Toshiba, HP, Sony, Dell, Acer, Lenovo and so on are the brands to go for.
Spec wise, it will do exactly what you want.

In terms of build quality, I have no idea about Advents.

As guill has said, the other makes are better known, with Toshiba being one of the better I believe.

Also, take Norton out of the package and save your money - Use a combo of AVG + Comodo, with AdAware/MalwareBytes as backup, and run CCleaner regularly to clear out un-necessary carp.

Fella in Harvey Norman's was raging when I told him to stick their extended warrenty and Bullguard AV.
