I can't see that being economical to repair unless it's the ram that's at fault, if you have two sticks have you tried removing one at a time? It sounds like the motherboard is probably at fault which would be expensive to replace.

I would not get it repaired if Johnmcl7's advice does not work. I'd dismantle it and sell the parts on eBay, then put the proceeds towards a new one.

I was thinking the same, unfortunately it only has one slot and i only have 1 stick of ram so can't test it. I have however just brought a stick of ebay though so can test it when it arrives. Thanks for your input John, most appreciated.

Hopefully i won't have to resort to selling it for bits...i'd love to see it working, it looks great with it's blue finish and is a nice size and weight. Thanks for your input.

A laptop with faulty ram should not power itself off. It should remain on, with a blank screen and beep at regular intervals.

How quickly after power on does it turn off? Have you tried removing the battery and running it off mains only?

Try this. Remove the additional ram, battery and mains adaptor. Hold down the power button for 5 seconds or more. Now plug in the mains adaptor only (no battery). Any change?

I agree it's rare for the ram to cause this behaviour but thought it's worth checking before binning the machine.
