Failing that, anyone advise of some good templates..

Personally, I'd recommend you dont bother.

You want to learn how to create sites. Those are primarily aimed at people who have no interest, but want a simple uniform site that will appear all over the place by different users.

Its difficult to recommend any templates for you as I'm not really sure what style you are after. Certianly those you've mentioned to date are pretty basic types that can be found many places in a google search.

Have you started using dreamweaver yet? If you have, I'll be able to help you out with a few things. You would never look back if you did!

but obviously op does not kno how to do this. nothing wrong with using a dtp style piece of software to create websites. some of them look pretty good.

for the op, i have used one and one, but not the design part so cant help. thing is, if you have an eye for design, try frontpage, its very basic but easy to use. you can create the layout table in excel, then paste it in to a webpage in frontpage, easy web design for no cost!!!!

I do some design work in notepad, but if the OP hasn't done it before it's not exactly the easiest thing in the world to learn!
How I started to teach myself was to use front page (uggghhhh) but then look at the code behind it and work from there.

I dont have a clue about coding, and only use Front Page, and Web Page Maker (which i know is **** but it did the job for the o.h).

FP is canny and im now learning (slowly) what certain coding means, by using the "spilt" option which views you the actual webpage, and coding at the same time. I have used DW in the past, but this laptop wont run it. (but thats a different story, as, until is one packs in totally, I aint getting a new one), unless someone wants to donate me one :whistling:

But what you fail to say is the fact you were probably already quite advanced in your knowledge of things. I've not got the time, nor inclination to learn it as well as I should. I wished that was different to be fair. But do know enough to correct most if not all of the errors that any compliance check throws up.

What is 100% certain, is I could create a decent looking site and have it up and running in next to no time, that most would think would look pretty good.

In any case. Its a mute point. The OP would be unable to create a site in notepad, but could easily do so in dreamweaver, which is pretty much the better option unless he spends an awful lot of time to reach that goal.

DW is good if you don't want to type up all your code, just click a few buttons,

i like to know whats in my site & be able to customise it...... thats why i learnt it all :)

Which is fair enough - and all credit to you:thumbsup:

But on that point, any template I use, never ends up looking anything like it did at the begining! Yes, it means you need to know the basics and a bit more, but its all relatively painless.

Agreed, and thats what i meant by using fp as a learning tool, for someone who has no idea how to create a webpage it is ok for basics. I hate fp too now, but about 10 years ago it was a godsend!
