does my pc have a virus?

My pc wouldnt connect to the internet. I have a wireless connection, I tried repairing the connection and all the usual routines that get it back working again but with no success.. I turned off my pc and turned it on again.. when it came back on it said i needed to register for open office which i thought was a bit strange since i have been registered for over a year!

next i went onto firefox and all my setting such as the skin had been reset and it asked if i wanted it to be my default browser.. I then went onto IE and it asked me the same thing..

Im currently 50mins into a virus scan but nothings shown up, any ideas what it could be?

Im using AVG anti-virus
p.s. its still not working, im using a laptop :)

You could try removing the software that supports your wireless access point, and the device itself, then reinstall? This might fix it.

Sounds like you may have registry problems which are sometimes the first sign that your HDD is on the way out. Best back up anything you don't want to lose asap.

Try putting everything back to the way it was and seeing what happens. It may have just been a temporary problem - Windows is renowned for such things.

Backing up anything you don't want to lose is good advice though - I speak from bitter experience.
