Yes - the engineer will install an extension line to the phone socket if there's not already one there.

It's part of the contract unfortunately.

Yes, I have three boxes and all have to be connected, they check regularly and send me a letter if any are not. I am having difficulty with connecting one box and sky are now charging an extra £10 a month until I get it connected.

Mines not connected . It's for ordering pay per view and things . If they ask say you didn't realise it had disconnected.

Yep, as above but only for 1st 12 months. I disconnected mine as soon as the engineer had left (how clever am I lol) but got a letter a month laters saying plug it back in or they will cancel contract but charge for full 12 months Doh ! lol.

None have mine are connected and haven't been other than the day the engineer visited.........never have a problem.

The Sky+ box upstairs hasn't been plugged in for about 3 years now.

I got mine installed in December and didn't want the wires either. The engineer said that it doesn't have to be connected, only if I want to order pay per view and things like that. He didn't connect it, he just made me an extension wire to plug in if I ever wanted to

Then the engineer (who will know for sure what the T&Cs are) knowingly advised you wrongly and you're in breach of your contract!

It tends to be the multi room subs they check on more

Sky will only care if you have multiple sky boxes.

If they didn't you could take out a full sky package, take out multiroom for a tenner, then let a friend who lives somewhere else use the card and get the full package for cheap.

That's why they actually care about kidcat's connection, as he could have sold the viewing cards on.

Mine has never been connected, they don't care.

I've had multiroom for years...........not had 1 letter or a phone call to tell me to plug them back in.

On a side note, if you get a jobsworth installer, you do have the option of paying a £20/25 opt out charge to have the box connected.

Doesn't say it has to be connected with a WORKING cable ;-)

Anyone asks, "oh, it is connected, the cable must be faulty"

Needs to be connected to finish the installation (they do a call through the line or something) but after that it wont matter unless you want to do something you pay for.

If you get multiroom then you do need the boxes connected to the phone line to prove that they are both in the same house etc

You are talking about multi-room, which is a whole new ball game. For all they know, you have 3 cards at different addresses. They don't like that!
