Hello I'm thinking about Christmas presents and I want to buy something for my old man but not sure if it exists!!! What I'm looking for is a piece of hardware that can play his films, music and pictures easily through his tv (like a decent hd media player) but also connect to the Internet, play the BBC iplayer type things and YouTube. Does anything exist like this?? Any help welcome!

I don't mind whether it's USB to an external HDD or if it's internal. Media will be converted from DVDs and obviously music an pictures from his computer. Budget is around £150, not sure he would benefit from ps3 and with the archos he already records all his tv through sky+ so is stuck in his ways with that. A standalone player would be best but with support for the things I mentioned. Thanks for all the replys so far.

Have a look at the Acer Aspire Revo. There is a few offers been posted on here before for it, and a discussion in one of them

revo looks interesting. Basically it's a small pc? Worth a look but due to the fact this is to go in his lounge I'm not sure he would fancy something with a keyboard and mouse. Was hoping for a remote. Maybe I will look at one in person

cant you get bluray players that do iplayer now? mine does youtube and plays divx/cd/dvd/bluray from disc or usb sicks, but thought I saw one advertised recently that was also iplayer capable=or was I dreaming?

get him an internet tv

Revo would be good, with xbmc installed, not sure if the latest build has iplayer support though. I have a wireless keyboard/trackpad with mine and It's great. Mce remotes work reasonably well.

Wdtv live would do it, has YouTube, but no iplayer

Try the sony bluray player i think its the 360? maybe 370? round about £100, plays blurays and also iplayer.

I bought him that Sony blu ray last year does it do that!!? Would save me a bit of money!! Internet tv way to expensive. That link looks interesting Andy ticks the tv box perfectly but not the film music and photo box. Maybe I have champagne taste and a lager budget!!!

Also sancho wdtv live seems about as close as I'm going to get and is under 100 quid. Sure there is a catch somewhere!! Looks like it's between that and revo if nothing does it all. How hard should it be!! If that's wdtv could do iplayer it would be there I think!!

I have both a revo and wdtv, the revo is superb, looks great, scrapes tv and film information etc, but is a bit fiddly to get up and running.

Functionally, the wdtv is just as good, but doesn't look as pretty. However it 'just works'

Cheers mate excellent stuff. I'm going do some Internet window shopping on both.
