i looked after my friends dog (5months) just over two months ago,she came on heat the last week i looked after him, i kept them apart as much as i could, but he didn't seem interested in humping her or anything, i notice yesterday jess's teats look alot bigger but just the back two, but we've had ozzie for 4days now i think not sure if she's just being hormonal, and is there such thing as a phantom pregnancy in dogs? she has also dug a hole in the back garden and when i go to see whats shes doing she sits on it, very strange behaviour coming from her she's alot more quiet and i was telling dave not too long ago she looks fatter, but i also think having ozzie has just disturbed her a bit so i don't know if its just that, all this talk about mating her with ozzie (which i'm still not sure about) and she might already be having puppies, what do you think? should i take her to the vets? or am i being silly?

Ooops puppies on the way! Your mate is not going to be best pleased (unless you have dogs that are pedigree and of course the same breed, then its quids in!) Or is it your dog thats pregzoid?

Shame they get a bad image based on appearance as they are just big daft softies.

My parents have a staffie x collie who was brought in as a cruelty case to the RSPCA and he is so affectionate and loving and great around kids.

if she was pregnant all her teats would have dropped by now & she would be a lot bigger as she's be due any day...
also dogs don't normally fall pregnant unless mated towards the end of the second week of being on heat. did you leave the dogs alone together for any length of time? because if they did mate they are normally tied for up to an hour....

5 months ago? If the bitch is pregant, its nothing to do with something at that time.

Gestation period for a dog is 63 days.

as soon as i found out she was on heat i seperated them as much as i could, but they had to do there thing outside together, but he didnt seem interested in humping her, and she's alot bigger than him, and i thought he wasnt interested because of his age, it strange as she has two teats at the back are really big but the font ones seem normal but she is fatter as i was asking dave about her weight gain and if i was feeding her too much, she's 3 years old and hasnt had a litter before, what signs should i look out for? im scared as i dont have any experience with dogs having pups and im worried something will go wrong if she is going to have pups
#16
i think i'll get my other half to take her to the vets on monday, as she is acting strange, being very quiet and not running around or being as hyper as she normally is, she just looks sad, might try and get a picture of her teats and see what you think, my poor doggy

that happened with my cavalier when we first tried to mate her (2 teats at back getting bigger) but she wasn't pregnant that time... might just be something to do with her age... i don't think you have anything to worry about, cos by the time my girl was coming to the end of her pregnancy all her teats were hanging down  a good book to get for referring to is Book of the B***h by J.M. Evans & Kay White. i use that to refer to often

If you are eligible try:-

http://www.pdsa.org.uk/eligibility.html

To be eligible, pet owners need to live within the defined catchment area of a PDSA PetAid hospital or PetAid practice and must be receiving financial help with their housing costs through either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.

This means that one in five UK households is eligible for help by PDSA.

thanks for that but i can't get it, altho dave suggested to take his mum and say it was her dog as she can, dont know how naughty that is, but if there is anything wrong we couldnt afford the vets bills at the moment as the car broke down this month

i seriosly don't think she is tho cos dogs normally mate a couple of weeks after going into season, i was the same as you tho the first time i thought bailey was pregnant & ended up paying a lot of money out for a consultation & a scan :whistling: just had a quick look through my book & says that they can show signs of phantom pregnancy due to the hormones released & tbh i think the lab was a bit young to even know what to do & probably couldn't have reached her if he tried  if you ever need any advice pm me :) not that i'm an expert or anything as bailey had to have a c-section

Signs of pregnancy

******* discharge will usually occur around 1 month after mating. (not that ive noticed)

The teats will become more prominent due to an increase in the blood supply around the base of the nipples. This should appear between 25 to 30 days after mating. (not sure on this one)

Appetite is usually depressed during mid-pregnancy, but not in every case. (she hasnt eaten much in 2days)

The abdomen will enlarge and the total body weight of your bitch may increase by 20%-55%. This may not be noticeable until 45-50 days into the pregnancy. (she's a bit fat but i wouldnt say that much)

Behaviour may also change, such as displaying slight depression. (she def looks sad)

Closer to the delivery date, your bitch will probably start to express her nesting instincts, scratching at the floor or in her bed, and displaying signs of increasing restlessness.(scraching yes in the garden, i dont think she seem restless tho)

yeah but she wouldn't be mid pregnancy now though as she'd be due any day which makes me think that this is a phantom pregnancy :)
