Cant really help other than to say get neither!! Proper fresh coffee always much better than this pre-packaged stuff - caffitierre (is that how you spell) is the way to go and a hell of a lot cheaper!!

have you considered Nespresso? Much better coffee and they've got £30 cashback offer on at moment, can get an £89 machine for £59 eg http://www.housemakers.co.uk/epages/Housemakers.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Housemakers/Products/11229&ParentID=1119409

"And did you know that the coffee of choice in Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck restaurant, widely regarded as Britain's finest restaurant, is Nespresso!"

The Krups machine here is a goodie! £69 (after £30 cashback) is a good price :)

You can only order Nespresso coffee at nespresso.com but it is fantastic coffee much better than you get in the tassimo, I've tasted both, can't comment on the Dolce Gusto tho

Just seen that you like chocco to, don't think Nespresso do a chocolate but would recommend reading reviews on Nespresso before you rule it out

Like i said tho, im not much of a "proper" coffee drinker, I now buy nescafe instant fine blend because its smooth and mild. I do not realy like a strong coffee taste so i will probly use it for cappachinos etc more, i'll av a look though

i'm thinking of this for xmas as well, and agree i have seen lots of mixed views

i think that the tassimo has a much better selection of drinks compared to the gusto machine, its best prices in argos at the mo as it is reduced to £59.99

if you look at the tassimo site you will see lodas of drinks, definately the best choice for variety

Dolce Gusto for definite! Tassimo is ok, but the tea is rank!

I have had both Nespresso and Dolche Gusto.

Nespresso is by far the best coffee, but you pay for that: average pod price is 25p and they can only be ordered online.

This has caught me out quite a few times!! You can't just pop out to the shops, at a dinner party

However the crema and the quality of nespresso beats Dolche Gusto hands down, despite both being Nescafe.

The Dolche Gusto provides a slightly synthetic flavour (imho) and the varieties eg: latte etc are powered milk with a lot of sugar.

But! the gusto varieties are easy to get hold of in the supermarket and have various flavours, and come in at either 21p ish for espresso for box of 16 at £3.29 or double that for the milk drinks a whooping 42p per cup.

The Tassimo is in the same vein as the gusto, and I suspect it will be equally sythetic, but I haven't tried it so I stand to be proved very wrong.

After all of this, I have now gone old school and use a stove top Italian espresso maker!

Phew! Done!
