Always used one company for hosting and domain, never had a problem with it, cant see why you would want to split them up either.

cheers
that hosting site seems pretty cheap and im guessing its reliable if both of you recommend it.

If you have ANY problem with the host, you cant be held to ransom with the domain. You can simply set up elsewhere and the web host cant stop you.

Plenty of scenarios to think about. Poor performance, they don't like what your doing, eg the site itself, too much bandwidth/ CPU usage etc etc etc.

Not suggesting it WILL happen, but why take a risk? Plus of course you are free to chose the best / cheapest option (including free hosting) for both the domain and host.

Im not recommending for both. Just host the domain with 123reg and host the site elsewhere.

(Not sure if its me you were replying.... but just to clarify!)

Been with the same guys for 8 years now, held several domains with them. In that time they have moved their operations from the US to the UK, have very competitive packages, email support 7 days a week (although not advertised) and have NEVER given me any problems in all that time.

Yes i could get the features for free or cheaper than I am paying them, but I would not get the support I am getting, and thats something I feel is worth paying for in a good host.

So who are this host and domain provider you've used for 8 years?

I've used easyspace before and they were pretty good. Their ticketing system seems to be working well. It depends what are you expecting from your hosting - network connection, bandwidth, space etc.

godaddy.com or hostmonster.com are the answer to all you question!

I wouldn't touch godaddy with a bargepole! They are like the ASDA of webhosting. It might be cheap, and the product is great if it works, but if there are problems you know they are skint on customer support.
