Dorothy Perkins - Awful Customer Service!

Just been in to Dorothy Perkins to refund an item of clothing my pregnant friend bought for me. Item was unworn with tags and reciept. The woman refused refund staying my 8 and a half month friend would need to travel back the the store to get a refund in the card she paid with. I explained that myfriend was fit to pop and had enough on her plate without asking her to go back to the store so asked her to either put the money back on to my friends card with the details she had in the system, put it on my card, give me the cash or even if all the above wasn't possible to give me a voucher. The store assisntant was unbelievably rude and unsympathetic and refused. I know stores have policies like this I've worked in stores like this but they were always flexible and staff used common sense.

Really annoyed!

Seems reasonable for them to refuse. I guess you didnt like their refusal much so didnt really take no for an answer?

its common practice to refund to the card that paid for it.
#3
yup, same for all shops now i think, they only refund to the card which it was payed for on.

stops fraud etc...

It can be very hard sometimes for shop assistants. They have to go by the rules. She was doing her job.

How has your 8 and a half month friend got their hands on a credit/debit card? let alone gone to the shops to pick the clothing out for you.
#6
surely they will give you a credit note if it was a gift - i've taken presents back and got a refund card - not sure why she didn't offer that service - they do at my local shop

I gather the OP was returning something that her friend who is 8 and a half months pregnant had purchased?
.

its quite simple-the shop have a legally binding contract with your friend-they have NONE with you-end of story.

they did not supply the goods to you,or take your money,so you have no rights at all in this situation.

Not the responses the OP was looking for...

I too say that the shop was not being unreasonable, i know most places will only refund to the card that it was purchased on.

Try another store, I would have thought you would be okay to get an exchange?
#16
I took something to DP once where the stithing had come out on trousers....rather than give a refund, they sewed them up. Stupid shop

Always thought that if you returned an item unworn and with a reciept, you could exchange it, regardless of how it was paid.
