Do you have Genuine Windows 7 Key but lost the DVD to install it from? Now you can download the Genuine official ISO image of the Windows 7.
REMEMBER YOU MUST HAVE GENUINE Win 7 KEY for the version you are installing.

Various web-based online storefronts and retailers (e.g. Digital River) sell Windows 7 licenses, and to fulfill the orders, the online stores host and provide digital downloads of Windows 7 setup installation files in the form of ISO image, which can then be unpacked and extracted, or used to mount on virtual drive and burnt to a DVD media disc to clean install Windows 7 on a blank PC or upgrade a system from existing operating system.

Product ID is not the key, the key is 25 digits in 5 sets of 5.
Aida64 will give you your actual key.

Only the paid version can get Win 7 keys...

B*gger I must be using the commercial version then :( hang on and I'll see what else is out there.

EDIT - How about ProduKey from NirSoft; it "...displays the ProductID and the CD-Key of Microsoft Office (Microsoft Office 2003, Microsoft Office 2007), Windows (Including Windows 7 and Windows Vista), Exchange Server, and SQL Server installed on your computer."

First off do you have the option to create a set of restore DVD/s with the laptop (generally there would be an option within the Start Menu, to a link to create them). You should look into this further by checking out the information out there for your model of computer and also the manufacturer's website.

Second run the ProduKey utility to take a note of the Windows 7 Product Key - physically write it all down and/or backup to a external location.

Third my understanding is that Windows 7 DVDs are are identical with regard to the OEM, Retail and Upgrade packaging kits (check out Ei.cfg utility to create a universal installation DVD) - if you were to go down the fresh installation route you'd have to backup the Windows 7 Activation Key (see post #12), use a Windows 7 DVD to do a clean install (assuming you want to go down this route & have backed up all data, device drivers, apps, etc off of the computer) and then once the install is complete you can restore the activation key without having to phone up Microsoft to get it re-activated again.

Link below covers it a bit more from a thread on Microsoft Answers but other members should chip in with their comments, in case I've missed out anything - I will say though boabbyrab if you go for this you have to research it fully, make sure all data is backed up (preferably to two external locations) and you have all of the device drivers downloaded & configs documented before kicking it all off.

cheers bud, know to do back ups etc, does the restore dvd take it back to factory settings
(complete with bloatware),just think the easiest and quick way to get rid is clean install

It would do - the factory restore would generally include all of the additional apps, etc.

just tried the 2 free programs above and both product id keys don't tie up with the sticker on the bottom of the laptop (well the ones i can make out anyway), is it possible that the wrong sticker has been placed on the laptop.

No the sticker is unique but the key used will be an oem batch one. They do this so they can clone 1000's of drives the same when in production. The oem keys are offline activation keys so wont work with a fresh install without tricking windows into thinking its oem insall by flashing a slic 2.1 bios mod.
