If you care to see his interview this morning on Daybreak James made it quiet clear that he was caught up in all the emotion of it all. He made it quite clear that it was NOT the best option to buy the baby but instead he helped the village.

James Caan is very decent guy he has done loads for charity in the past. Top guy in my opinion. My favourite Dragon.

Here, here.

There was a thread on here saying:

"thesaint is hung!"

Imagine my surprise when I found that there was no noose around my neck!

Mighty mugger how else is he going to defend his actions. And how the hell can you have a favourite dragon, that's like declaring your favourite murder, rapist etc.

I am sorry but surely most normal people would think.. 'I know, I will donate to help the village' first, not offer to buy someone's baby.

Just watched cann in action on the ten o'clock news, strutting around acting johnny big potato, the baby snatcher is worth over a hundred million, and he donates 1/2 million from his charity trust to help build a village, he might impress the villagers that gave lost everything but not me.

sometimes dragons get hungry

The money he donates he gets double back in tax breaks. Its a joke of a system.

You know he actually has £100 million in the bank then? No, he doesn't.

What's he supposed to do, sell all his companies and give the proceeds to every charity in the world? Would that make you happy?

I assume you have sold everything you own and given all the proceeds to charity and that's why you're angry with him
#16
i dont think its fair that he has chosen one village over all the other villages that were decimated....how must all those people feel? if you can spread the cash about that he obviously has, then why not try and give a bit of aid to all?
#17

Charity donations should be a personal thing, but I dare say I donated more than you.

Maybe he has some personal connection to that village. I can't believe people are "having a go" at someone who has donated £500,000 to a good cause.

If he hadn't have been caught out i reckon he'd have gone through with it. Will make the next series of Dragons Den's offerings interesting. lol

Of cause you have....it's always bitter and twisted people like your good self who give the most.

Dj1, I never said he had a million inthe bank, only a fool would think that way, the point that I was making that you and slamdunkin have missed is the money he is spending is from his charity trust, not from his bank account, you don't think the money held with his charity trust is his own money do you. The point that whingygit makes is a very good point, I think it said that he had shortlisted 4 villages, and from the 4 he was going to help one, sound like tv gameshow.

I think your right, but I don't think he will be back in the den , unless the next series has already been filmed

He suggested buying the baby and made an offer...Bad call on his part, but not really a big deal in the scheme of things...he's out there to do good and has the best intentions.

Naive

No I'm not naive...James is a genuine philanthropist who gives 2 days a week doing work for various charities. He's the chairman of the big issue and on the board of the princes trust as well as many other good causes.

It's £1432 which is over 2 years wages in that part of india...But I don't think he would have gone through with the transaction....like he said, he got caught up in the emotion of it all.

Slamdunkin, stop making me laugh, so you think he was trying to increase the well being of that family by buying there baby X)

Or was he just after a trophy baby.

I think he was there trying to help the well being of the whole village.....and did you miss the bit about the bay being for his brother and not for him.
#31
lol £100,000 for a 40% stake, and the baby.
#32
Slamdunkin, it seems that I got James cann all wrong, what a great guy and great brother he is, buy his brother a baby is very touching, all although he would never have carried out the deal, would heX)

He has admitted that he made a mistake...end of....people do make errors of judgement and do strange things sometimes. He does enough good work for charities for me to believe it was a mistake, don't see any reason for vilifying him.
[mod]#34
Getting spelling/sums wrong is a mistake, trying to fart and crapping yourself is a mistake...........but i feel that attempting to buy a baby (who away from the cameras we don't know what would have happened) is more than a mistake and is in fact a criminal offence.

I agree

Is it a criminal offence?

It was for his brother who lives in Pakistan?

Yes, Child trafficking is a worldwide criminal offence and that essentially is what it is.
banned#38
No it is not child trafficking in any shape or form...I've just read up on child trafficking and and wanting to adopt a baby to give it a better life doesn't come under the criteria.

You don't buy babies in the adoption process. He wanted to buy the baby to pass it on to someone else.........that is a fact. The personal circumstances don't come into it.

At the end of the day.........he was wrong and should be punished.
banned#40
He hasn't broken any law....no deal was made, the baby is still with it's parents.
