Dreams - Do they mean anything?

I have had some really weird dreams over the years. Some people say dreams mean something, others say they are just mixed up thoughts from daily life. I think that it is probably somewhere in between, though I know a percentage are the product of a one track mind.
I'd be interested in learning about what you think about this. Can we keep it clean? We'll see!

No they don't

It's just your brain running a defrag while your in sleep mode.

I lean to this idea, but have a few unanswered questions.

I always wonder about dreams. On more than one occasion i've dreamt about something then i've seen it happen months later and I get the Deja Vu felling. Weird.

Yeah, this is what I mean about unanswered questions. The deja vu part is interesting, those who totally reject the significance of dreams will say that you didn't really dream it, but that your mind is simply playing a trick with a false memory.

I believe that dreams mean somthing. werther you dream in black and white, full technicolour or just one colour also means somthing

Personally, I don't think they do. And if they did, what chance do we have of understanding them? For a start, when you dream, you never remember it completely from beginning to end, nor do you remember every detail, so it would be a bit like trying to understand a book, written in a foreign language, that you only have the middle chapters for, with lots of words missing.

Dreams DO mean something - they mean "stop eating cheese so near to bedtime!":p

Probably not much , although this article suggests that given enough accurate dream description a pretty accurate psychological profile can be built up.

It's not surprising, if you can imagine an event happening and then your brain happens to be dreaming about it when you rouse and then sometime later it happens.
What is surprising, to me, is that lots of children, in particular, have repetitive nightmares, like this one I used to get ; dad is being viciously attacked by a huge bear, in a cave just the other side of a brightly burning fire and you watch and scream but can't alter the situation!!!

I remember watching one very good documentary on sleep and dream. I think it was ‘The secret of sleep’. I think it was very good documentary. I tried to watch it many times but slept within 10 minutes.

Well worth knowing that, if any insomniacs pop into here.
