I'm planning on driving when I go over in a couple of weeks, do I need anything other than my full driving licence with me to rent a car??

ACTUALLY, you will need a credit card in your name, they will need to put a charge on it, then when you return the car you can decide to pay cash or use the credit card!

Credit card, driving license (photo and some ask for paper as well) and some ask for your passport - which you will have anyway.

Hope you haven't taken out their insurance!

Rental companies in the US charge a fortune for insurance. There are a few companies based over here that enable you to pay for everything you need in advance, thereby evading those charges and the resultant taxes and other rip-off fees.

I used the top one a few years back, even though I'd booked a fly-drive, it still worked out cheaper.
