good luck, i am going to start taking driving lessons in 2 weeks
#2
Hope it goes ok for you.

Got to take mine yet. I know I'll get nervous, I hate that sort of thing.

I'm not a believer in luck, so I wont wish you any. It all comes down to attentiveness, skill and making the right choices at the right time. Confidence is probably the most important ingrediant.
So, rather than "good luck", I hope and trust you'll do well!

dandoc, everyones nervous, just try and stay calm, I failed my first test due to apparantley going too slow, and having a queue of traffic behind me (now bare in mind i was Z Bends which mean several really tight bends, its not possible to got round them at 30 miles an hour), my second i failed due to doinig a parallel park, and i knew i was going to do it wrong, and asked if i could do it again, and he said he isnt allowed to say so i thought i wasnt alowed, and ended up hitting the kerb. (and when finished the test he stated if i had of just done it again without saying so, and completed it i would of passed. So keep that in mind, if you feel you are going to hit the kerb or feel you are doing something wrong, rectify it without asking to. I passed on my 3rd with the boss of the driving school up here, which i was shocked at! Thinking hed be really strict etc, but he was the lovliest man, and i had bad rain!!! And he got me to do a parallel park on a hill, and i knew i was doing it wrong, and was gonna either be wide or hit the kerb, and i said i cant believe this im gonna fail, he said no your not, he said drive on and well find somewhere else! How sweet! So i passed with 3 minors! Wooohoo xxxxx GOOD LUCK XXXXXXXXXXX

I do think the worse thing for me atm is the fact that its 9am in the morning which could mean heavy traffic but that could be a good thing

Good luck! Passed 3rd time here. Take your time and concentarte when doing turn in the roads, parking etc
#11
How many lessons have you taken?
banned#12
Dan, try using the wing mirror rather than that little thing at the back, I found it better and its more useful as you will do it that way when you pass...

Also what do you mean you drive auto?
#13
Just try to relax, i failed the first time cos i was so nervous i done something stupid.

If you fail, then you do it again, it's as simple as that so don't worry too much. Good luck

automatic i dont drive a manual gearbox

Why have you gone for Auto only?

Means you will have to take another test to drive shift....

Seems to be a lot doing this at the moment

because manual is rubbish i learnt in that before clutch down into first - accelerate - clutch down into second boring

and then you have to balance the clutch on the hill whereas auto you just press the pedal - drivings meant to be fun but cause stress

But anyone thats my age are learning in automatics its had a huge influx of convertees who cant drive manual

I have this same arguement with my parents why do i need to pass my test in a manual when i dont want to drive one i want to drive an auto

good look, hope u pass

Sure it will go well dandoc2.

Lets us know how you get on, I passed a few weeks ago and its such a huge relief!!
#23
you will be fine..i had pre test lesson...on that i killed a phesant and a cyclist decided to jump out in front of me...so i was adiment i would fail even before i got to my test...on my test my parrallel parking made me think i failed because it took me 5 min of backwards and forward because i couldnt get it right and i stalled too...but because i didnt ask to start it again and i just kept going it showed i was in control and kept my cool he said...i passed 1st time and been driving now since last october 26th and now clocked up nearly 8000 miles..so brill the independance...
so keep calm and if something goes wrong...just put it right without worrying...my test bloke was so scary...he was so stern looking and hardly said a word....until we were nearly back at test centre then he suddenly became human....when he said i had passed i kissed him kissed my instructor...and screamed
so keep calm and enjoy it...its going to hopefully be the start of a whole new independance:):):)

Btw is it just 2 manoevers ???

As im not too confident on reverse around the corner is there a chance i might not have to do it ??

anyone know what choices there are e.g parellel and 3 point or reverse and 3 point etc etc?

20hrs of lessons, that is pretty good to take the test.

Is auto really eaiser then manual?

Thought you had to do 3 now...but not sure

it was 2 when I did it 10 years ago...but no hazard perception back then either

YES

Think about it, you haven't got to change gear continually so makes it easier to learn everything else

Only problem is you can only drive an automatic then...whereas you learn in a manual you can drive both

Why you think so many Americans have automatics:whistling:
#28
no its 2

Its so much easier you can concentrate on the actual driving instead of thinking am i gunna stall

Good luck!

I have a full manual license but I drive an auto now (because I chose a car that only comes with auto) and now I wouldn't go back. Why make it hard?

Yeah, good luck matey!
I'm glad I don't have to go through all that again. I've picked up sooo many bad habits I'd defo fail.
Would have to dissagree on the auto thing tho. You can't beat a good bit of gear-shifting:thumbsup:
Good luck.
