Seat belt off - NO he wil instanly fail you
No crossing hands EVER
look as often as you think necessary. make sure you know whats going on around and behinde you - but also pay attention to the road infront of you

overtaking a cyclist is difficult one. In test conditions id indicate if there are others motorists around - if not then I wouldnt

Good Luck

Good luck 4 2 mo:thumbsup:
#3
you can take it off when reversing. but i wouldnt recommend it, as you may forget to put it back on again.
#4
If there is a cysclist do i have to indicate to move around him? - yes, but not for parked cars.
#5
How often do io need to look in my mirrors when driving normally? - depands on the road. in town not a lot. on a dual carrage way about 1/4 of the time. you should know where things are behind as well as in front. and check before braking aswell!
#6
tips - put the air con on if you have it even if your not hot, the stress when he starts marking his bit of paper will make you hot!
#7
Depends on the situation. If it is a tight space when overtaking cyclist, never try. If it is something with two lanes AND it is so safe you can be blind and still miss the cyclist, I guess it probably is ok to blink, look and move (like overtaking buses).
However, if you are hesitant, like I was, I just stick behind him :D and waste precious exam time as well as hope that the cyclist hops back on the pavement and fall in the ditch or something

Unlike most tests, time really is on your side. the examinar has 45-50 minutes driving time to try and get you to fail :D. Therefore, there really is no need to rush and fall into the trap.

When reversing can i take off my seat belt? - Yes but the second you move forward it must be on!

When reversing, i.e 3 point turn can i cross my hands? - Nope, Not at all

How often do io need to look in my mirrors when driving normally? every 10seconds or so for the main mirror

If there is a cysclist do i have to indicate to move around him? Not sure but cant do harm to.
#9
Good luck
#10
If there is a cyclist do i have to indicate to move around him? Im pretty sure that you should and if you think that you wont get marked down for doing it, it is for the best either way

Good Luck!!!

If there is a cyclist, beep your horn until he bumps up on the kerb where he should belong in a happy world

If your asking questions like that the day before your test ...................stay at home and save your money and your time .
Who has been teaching you to drive ?

Of course you could be just joking ................!?
#13
i failed my test yesterday.should of passed but had alot against me.the day before my test i get a phone call from my instructer telling me he has a hire car due to somone hitting his usual car during a lesson, this put me of enough having a hour to get used to a completly diff car and controls etc, then also the examiner was horrible, she spent the whole test time staring at me and that realy put me of,i fail due to pulling out infront of somone on the roundabout :( somthing i dont usualy do even on lessons,im just waiting on cancelations now but have to wait 10 days between retaking tests.

hope you get on well!!

ive had about 50 hours of driving time, will be driving my own car only had 10 lessons (learn the basics did the rest with my dad), just needed to clarify a few thing there not exactly major are they? and thanks for all the support.
#15
I have been considering using my own car,i guess i just have to show proof of insurnace to the examiner etc.....alot cheaper than handing £80 to your instructer while you take the test.

my only worry is my own car hasnt got power steering but then cars enever used to have it anyways and people still managed to do their tests lol

Re: Mirrors.

Without making yourself look like a *****, make it obvious that you are actually checking them by moving your head rather than just glancing by moving your eyes action man style. Every 10 seconds is during normal driving, obviously when carrying out maneouvers it's different.
#17
good luck for tomorrow - sure you will be fine

Let us know how it goes

Just to confuse matters further, its now frowned upon i hear to exagerrate the movement of the head when looking in mirrors as it can distract you from the road ahead,im sure someone told me you now get marked down for it, just flick your eyes to themirror if you can, an examiner will see you are doing it
#19
This is what my driving instructor told me.

When reversing can i take off my seat belt? yes
When reversing, i.e 3 point turn can i cross my hands? No
How often do io need to look in my mirrors when driving normally? Every 4-5 seconds
If there is a cysclist do i have to indicate to move around him? no because then people behind you might think your making a turn
#20
good luck!

When taking my driving test 5 years ago, the examiner told me it didnt matter if you crossed your hands providing you were in control of the car. I had crossed my hands several times in my test, and i didnt get a minor for it hence me asking. hth and good luck also indicate if it will benefit anyone, so assess the situation, and use mirrors to check main mirror when changing speed/stopping etc and wing mirrors and main mirror when moving off. and DONT forget your blind spot checks!

I took my test in March and my examiner told me never to cross hands becasue its a fail. I had to thread it through my hands. - Maybe that was just my driving instructer tho.
#22
Just to clarify for the cyclist thing, as long as you make sure that you check your wing mirror when moving out and again when moving back in, they wouldn't fail you for not indicating.

And Yes you can take your seatbelt off to reverse round a corner but i wouldn't recommend it as you might forget to put it back on. One of the reasons that this is allowed is because women have a gland in their neck and if it get's blocked it can make them pass out so they need to be able to shift freely in the seat.

good luck for the test - it's a horrible ordeal to go through but so rewarding if you pass!

i did my test about 7 months ago

When reversing can i take off my seat belt? ive never been told that you can so i wouldnt bother

When reversing, i.e 3 point turn can i cross my hands? again i was never told you could do this so i wouldnt

How often do io need to look in my mirrors when driving normally? alot and make sure he knows your looking

If there is a cysclist do i have to indicate to move around him? i never did just slow down and make sure its safe to move around him, you can get a minior for taking your time but you will get a serious if you rush it and put anyone in danger

but if your still unsure about anything ask, i asked loads of stupid questions before taking my test, even if you think you've failed carry on like nothings wrong, dont panic, i thought i failed loads of times, like stalling 3 times to get up a hill, and cutting a corner, i was 3 miniors off a serious, good luck
#24
look in mirrors normally like every 5-10 seconds

insuring a learner driver is going to be much more expensive than £80 although £80 is very steep.
#26
the main mirror checks should be done as your approcahing a junction, traffic lights etc.
You HAVE to do these as these as you will get you minors if you don't check.
The times 4-5 or 5-10 seconds seem abit odd, in my experience (i took my test a few times) it doesn't work like that. Different situations require different actions.
As for the crossing the hands, i didn't know that was a fail but if people say it is I'd be on the safe side and just make sure you don't do it.

You'll do fine though!

Good luck!
#27

No crossing hands EVER

Incorrect, you are allowed to do this on 3-point turns
#28
well all i gotta say is i failed because of not looking in my blind spot so dont forget to look at your mirrors and blind spot constantly as they make you pull over many times and then move off. and also on roundabouts when you go straight you dont give an indicator and if you do they can fail you for that a common mistake, watch out for crazy drivers when you change lanes and dont go extra slow as they can also fail you for that i tend to go say about 30mph road at 28mph and main dont break the speed limit or you fail on spot.

Cyclists are not allowed to use the pavement.
You got something against cyclists?
#31
When reversing can i take off my seat belt? YES you can aslong as you remember to put it back on before moving away.
When reversing, i.e 3 point turn can i cross my hands? NO, you must always use push and pull technique
How often do io need to look in my mirrors when driving normally? make sure you move your head slightly so the instructor can see you looking in mirrors. remember at traffic lights, to look in all 3 mirrors. When joining a new road look in ur reer mirror. before you break look in the reer. when you turn a corner always look on ur left or right side to check for cyclists.
If there is a cysclist do i have to indicate to move around him? Yes, always check your mirrors before, incase of motorbikes over taking you. also make sure there is no side roads etc
#32
If reversing and you want to take off your seatbelt, just take the belt of your shoulder and put it back round afterwards.

You CAN cross your hands when doing a 3-point turn.

Check your mirrors every 5 seconds or so and make sure you move your head rather than just your eyes so it gives the person confidence that your checking and a safe driver.

No need to indicate when overtaking a cyclist but you can if you want to. I'd recommend doing it if they aren't sticking close to the side of the road though.

Just think that if you can concentrate for 1 hour in your lesson, then you can concentrate for 35 mins on a test.

Good luck and let us know how you got on.
#33
"We know it is allowed to cross your hands when manoeuvring the vehicle at slow speed"

http://www.letstalkdriving.co.uk/THE%20DRIVING%20TEST.htm

If you've practiced it that way, don't change your method or you are more likely to mess it up.

Stick to what your comfortable with.

Well i failed and it was quite stupid only got 4 minors every thing was going great, then we came to a double round-a-bout i first had to indicate to get on the right hand lane as i was going straight ( 2nd exit) which i did then had to indicate right at the round-a-bout which i did then right again which i did but forgot to indicate left to get of on the second round-a-bout i am gutted, everything else was perfect, emergency stop, reverse around corner and parrerl park, i only got this test as someone cancalled booked last saturday, bow the next avaible time is 1st of august:x

Hard luck m8 . Lots of people dont pass first time .I failed mine as I was too nervous , after a few more lessons the instructor said I was too confident and had too slow everything down . I did and passed the second time .I had already bought my car and was gutted when I failed 1st attempt . I used to drive it with no tax & insurance to get some practice .Yes ,I know it was wrong and have NEVER dont it since . It WAS back in the mid seventys and people got away with things .I own 2 cars now and would hate to lose my licence , there are such an valuable asset .
Good luck next time .

Don't worry too much about it. To me, it is probably just a silly mistake that you just managed to overlook. right now, you need to keep practicing that bit and keep checking dvla for vacancies.. I don't know your driving skills, but to end up with 4 minors is GREAT tbh. You will past it next time.

Put back in straight away , you never know you may get a cancellation, good luck for next time
