My Nintendo Ds broke this morning (hinge snapped so only hanging on with one hinge now) My dilema is do I get another normal DS or the new DSi?? Are the new ones worth it?

(oh and will the new Dsi accept the homebrew cards?)

Dont waste your money on a dsi - this is a perfect time to replace your ds as shops are trying to get rid of the ds

Just for the fact the screens are bigger which to me has made the graphics far better and clearer is the biggest draw, and it has increased functionality etc etc, Have just got the DSTTi card a few days ago and it works brilliantly, no complaints

I thought DSi was just an added camera and touch screen top screen, other than that they are identical, unless I've missed something???

Don't forget they cost a lot more :whistling: :)

i'm not a fan of either but my son has both now, just got the dsi for his birthday. To me its a rip off as the new added hardware is literally worth a few quid. They've also taken out some hardware(GBA slot). However he LOVES the dsi, thinks its a big improvement.

One thing to note is that nintendo DO fix ds hinges for free. My son had one of his break too. We never got around to contacting nintendo in time but i know lots of people this has happened to and they've got it fixed for free.

Which shops are these?

Are you sure, I did one the other week for a mug that bought a DSi, and it worked perfectly. As long as it's an "i" variant it will work in a DS or a DSi. :)

I got a a dsi for my daughter for her birthday, We've not had any of the previous models before so i can't comment on which is the better console.

The internet shop seems's good as nintendo gave us free points to buy games 1000 points enough th buy wario snapped (think thats the name of the title) and another low budget game or a real football 2009 for 900 points.

Using the online shop the internet explorer is free which is a positive for us as my daughter does not own a computer of her own.

When looking for the best deal to buy a dsi I came across threads for homebrewcards and as a result i have bought the acekard 2i and this works very well and has online support.

Their is no gamboy advance (gba) slot, but for us this is not a problem as my daughter has a gba.

Instead of the Gba slot is a sd card slot which your able to put mp3's the internet downloads + I think you are able to store more homebrew games on the sd card too (untested).

The Cameras are rubbish tbh! but my daughter has used them for 10 mins :)

I'll be honest I rushed to buy a 65 pound (edited) ds lite from morrisons but i was not lucky enough and if the ds was for myself i would wait for other shops to cut their prices as the dsi is not worth double the price of a ds lite but this was a birthday present and asda's expired deal of 127 pound seemed a good deal.

There is no question that the DSi is a better console, my gripe is that there aren't any games for it, and it's price.

It was £65 in Morrisons, and your comparison of "double" the price is unfair, as Morrisons had a few consoles for a day or two (if you were lucky) at that price.
You will be waiting in vain for other shops to cut the price of the DS "en masse", it simply won't happen, as the DS is the best selling console at it's current price.

If you use the additions direct voucher for new customers £30 off a £60 spend you can get a new DS for £69.99 + £3.95 delivery charge. Not sure this will help, but at least not too far short of the £65 morrisons had them for

Or, if you are already a Marshall Ward customer, you can phone them and see if they will offer £30 off a £60 spend. There DS's are only £89 before delivery and discounts.
