My son's DS Lite was bitten by a teething part-human creature and the top screen was damaged. Bottom screen is fine. I have seen screens for sale on ebay but want to know if swapping screens is something a keen amateur can do or is there a better solution?

It is just the LCD part that needs replaced, the plastic surround is fine.

There's plenty of guides on youtube to help you, unfortunately it's blocked at work so I can't link you to any just now

Swapping the top screen is pretty straightforward but it is fiddly and does involve taking the whole console to bits, there is also some soldering involved.

you have to be careful with the power button really easy to beak when putting it back together

Yikes, soldering means it is not for me then :-(

I never thought to look at youtube - great idea, thanks.

The above link gives pretty good instructions. To replace the top screen you'll need to dismantle the whole DS. Things to watch out for are, hinges, springs on L and R buttons, on/off and volume sliders. Fiddly but, if you are careful, straightforward. You'll need a "tridriver" as well.

I don't recall any soldering when I did it, only when I had to replace the power switch that I broke.

The Speakers are soldered to the top screen.

ive swapped one before, pretty sure it wont require any soldering. Altough it is really fiddly and takes alot of patience and gentleness to feed the ribbon cable through to the main board.

Its more frustrating than it is hard!!
