I have a pair of plastic tweezers and these have proved really useful for jobs like this.
I've had them for years and years so don't know where you could get them from.
Could do with a few different sizes to be honest.
Good luck.

have you flicked the black bit up so you can push the cable in

Yep as said, push the flip catch up, clean the bottom contacts on the cable, insert fully and staright, and then flip the lock-catch down.

If you get weird coloured screen or the ds switches on but straight back off again the bus cable is most likely slightly out of position, just re-insert the cable again... tip hold battery in place with thumb to test before doing screws up.

Thanks never realised the clip had to be lifted up

My ds is switching on then off again before it even switches on, what is the bus cable?

could be the cable isnt in proper or you have cracked the cable inside trying to push it in without lifting the black plastic bit first or could also be a blown fuse,,quite easy to fix by bridging the fuse with a bit of solder

link to ds lite repair repair blown fuse website http://m3wiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_DS_Lite_:_Repair_a_broken_console_%28blown_fuse%29

Cheers Scooby, i'll check the fuse tomorrow with a multimeter, although the green light comes on then goes after both screens go white as if it's going to turn on

best way to test the fuse i found was to cellotape a bit of tin foil onto the fuse and try the ds,,if it works then simply bridge the fuse with a bit of solder(wouldnt bother with the copper wire on the repair website as its too fiddly with the small fuse)

hope you get it sorted

Checked the fuses they are fine, cxhecked all the cables they seem fine, but now i get a flicker on bottom screen when i turn on, which i weren't getting before

You just have to keep re-seating the connectors.
They have to be spot on.
