nintendo keep updating the firmware on the dsi-you can stop it doing this when you connect to the internet tho. every time there is an update the card makers need to come up with a solution cos it stops the card working-simple solution-when the dsi offers to download an update just say no.

so if she gets any card, but just says no to updates it will be fine, will this then stop games working, like the newer games, like the old R4 you had to keep updating with newer games

just been on one site and it says "Compatible with the 1.4 firmware-13th Sept 09 "

UK supplier if it must be one, that site also offers a guide on how to workaround 1.4

if she gets any card, installs the latest firmware for the card and refuses the nintendo updates she will be fine

no-the new games work via the card manufacturers updates so she may need to install that from time to time-nothing to do with the dsi updates.

The cynical side of me thinks that new (genuine)games will come out that require the latest firmware on the DSi. When upgraded this will render the flash cards useless until a workaround is out. Then the next new game from Nintendo will need another firmware upgrade and it will go round in cirlces.

i was fine up till now, now ya lost me again, so if when card comes she puts latest firmware on she will be fine, so if games become unplayable, she needs to reinstall firmware like you do when you set it up, not update via the dsi?

yep-thats it-she can leave the games on the card, delete the old version of firmware and reinstall the new-one minute job. she is updating the flashcard version firmware-not the dsi firmware.
