What's the point. can't do anything about it. We are just sheep who go to work every day and pay our Tax so the government can live the life of luxury they have become accustomed to. baaaaaaaa.

Outrageous!

Good old Sun: "“The principle of using honest premium paying motorists money to pay for the damage to an insured drivers’ car just seems wrong."

Nothing to do with insured drivers.

Uninsured drivers should receive an automatic 12 month prison sentence the first time and 5 years the second time.

With prisons more overcrowded than hospitals can't see it happening

Just crush the drivers along with their cars, the only problem is the eco hippies might moan about an increase in landfill.

Or just build prisons that don't cost thousands of pounds per week per person to run. No tv, no gym, no time out of cell .. May even reduce the reoffend rate .

"The £250 million comes from a near £10 a year levy on every motorist’s insurance premiums."
so my insurance will be nearly £10 more. It doesn't bother me. but the government should forget about fighting this and spend the time getting the uninsured off the road.

12 months for forgetting to renew your insurance at midnight & someone smashing into your car at 5 minutes past midnight because they ran a red light.

Yep... Thats fair.

Think before posting.

No need to build prisons just reopen some coal pits seal them in and for every ton of coal they bring to the door they get a meal for the day.

You will be okay as under these new rules you can still claim your compensation.

You can renew your insurance a month in advance and after spending 12 months in prison you would not forget again.

Please think before posting. ;)

What do see as a fit punishment for someone who is happy to be totally irresponsible?

Hit them in their pockets.

Certain criminals need to be put on higher tax codes. An extra 5% for 5 years for some, 10% for 10 years for others etc.

Do you think society gains by putting someone who commits white collar crimes in prison? No. They're out in 2 years and have cost us a fortune.

As for uninsured drivers, ban them for 10 years and get them to pay 5% higher takes, if they repeat offend then imprisonment.

Wouldnt work. Rich people get paid via dividends or offshore payments.

So anyone with proper money wouldnt be effected

So around 2 minutes googling showed this was actually caused by RoadPeace threatening to take the government to court, rather than the EU making this happen, and the story is around a year old.
There's nothing to say premiums might increase, well apart from the Sun saying they might, sometime, by some amount.
I can't see anything in the Directive that says this is true either, although I did just skim read it.

We have loads of space on the moors on islands etc build prisons with no luxury , no tv , a 6ft by 4 ft cell , 1 meal a day , no time out if cell , no visitors . This should cut the prison bill by quite a few millions .
Oh and deport the 13000 or so migrants clogging up prisons or Bill the country of origin for their keep if they refuse to take them .

You should indeed think before posting. Every insurance company gives you a months notice and auto renewal option so if you leave your renewal to the last second then you are not fit to live in a decent soviety nevermind drive a car.
