Due for a free upgrade - best way to get the phone I want?

As title says Im due for a free upgrade with O2 as Ive just completed my 12 months. Id like a new phone and have been looking at either the Nokia N96 or the Sony Ericsson C905 as I want a decent camera and wi-fi. Only problem is I dont think theyll offer me one of those phones automatically.

Whats the best way to haggle for what I want? Should I threaten to leave them or is there a simpler way?

Im not very good at this sort of thing as you can probably tell so if someone has any pointers Id be glad to hear them :)

Cheers

yeah, ask them for the one you want, if they say no, say you'll move to vodafone then.
#2
Yeah but watch out with the N96 my OH has it and it crashes quiet a lot.
#3
take a talk plan that offers 1 of the fones.....

they dont give them away for free u know

my n96 has never crashed btw
#4
Just call and say you want your PAC code, they will put you through to the retentions dept who will ask you the reason why you want to leave. Give them your reason and they will give you what you want and probably better.

I'd avoid the n96. It's a good phone, but the battery life is limp, and the camera's not as good as its predecessor's. Can't speak for the Sony.

I have just had the same problem and to be honest O2 were not playing ball with the phone i wanted i850i samsung (inov8) great phone by the way as it uses the nokia o/s but does'nt crash
I cancelled my contract as they wanted £35 per month for upgrade so i went with £25 per month for a new contract (18 months) i need to stay on O2 for the calls to my family as we all are O2
Hope this helps:)

I just rang O2 to see what they would offer me as a free upgrade - said they would do the C905 at £30 a month on a 24 month contract, the N96 at £40 on a 24 month, and the N95 at £30 on an18 month or £25 on a 24 month. She said they dont stock the Samsung and didnt know if they were planning to in the future.

Not so good. Going to call back in a minute and request my PAC code - see what that does.

them contracts are a disgrace... the request of PAC should bring them down a little. I've got the N95 on its not bad, but £25 a month for 600mins and unlmt texts

They stocked it before Christmas and the only place i found is mobiles.co.uk that do it for £25 for 200 mins and 200 txt but it's £57 for the handset not bad though i think

Just got done with Retentions.

Ended up getting the C905 on 18 months for £30 a month; 600 mins and 1000 txts. Also got free 3G internet for the whole term.

Was hoping to get a 12 month contract but they said there was no chance with this particular phone.

Oh well, seems ok I guess. What do you guys think?
#17
Sort of.. I think?
On orange you can get 600 min, unlimited texts and the c905 free?
But no internet i suppose

Yeah Orange was only different in that they gave unlimited texts. But no free internet.

Asked Orange how many mins and txts Id get on a 12 month contract and it was 100 mins and 500 txts or 400 mins and 100 txts but for £32 a month.

Think I did ok but not great.

Meh, if you got what you wanted thats fine!
My orange contract reduction was superb if I say so my self :p
600 min, unlimited texts, unlimited internet ( well 500mb i think) 30 free picture messages a month, and a HTC touch diamond which I then sold for a further £215!
So I came off pretty good :)
Oh and i forgot too say, all for a mere £15 a month reduced from £30(previous 18 month contract)

How did you manage that!!?
#21
i have my contract with O2 through Carphone Warehouse with a chequeback scheme.

I pay £40 per month for 600 minutes and 500 texts on a 12 month contract. I then claim back £120 every 3 months so it works out completely free.
It does mean the responsibility of having to remember to send the bil lin on time, but I have done 3 years fine so far and I also have the extra money to buy whatever phone I want - and when I first joined they gave me a Nokia which I sold on eBay for £100 - oh and Quidco was £35 then, too

??????
profit (as BG1 would say :giggle:)

Was that with upgrade - I have managed to get some pretty excellent deals for OH with T-Mobile in my time, but not sure I could match that!

To be honest I'm not sure!
Was a month before my contract ended as well!
I kept ringing until someone gave me a good deal :p
Each time id get them to write down on my account as a note what they'd offered me..
They also said I was a premium user ( I think bcos most months I was spending £35 - £40 and one month £122 when I was on holiday)
They said I could have £15 loyalty discount bringing it down from £30 to £15 ( id previously already downgraded it it to £30 and to unlimited internet that time orange brought out free internet for about a week)
and then asked for the HTC they said that was fine was their anything else I would like and I said well seeing as I send picture messages, he said Ill bung on 30 free a month for you!
Boom :w00t:
Only thing is got a call 20 min later, id forgotten to give a shipping address
Just keep trying see if you get offered different things by different people lol!
Sorry for the long post!
