Could try item number 400030049352 on the bay. That's assuming you already have an HDMI cable. If not item 310164554391should work. But as above there won't be any audio going through that so will have to output that through the normal cable that comes with the PS3.

Just a heads up that you will have handshake issues with the hdmi-dvi adaptor for a non hdmi1.3 compliant device (ie your projector). It will work but every time you launch a game, dvd or blu ray and every time you go back to the dashboard you will need to reset the projector in order to get a picture again.

hope this helps and saves you some money, go for the vga lead for the multi out port or component for the projector.

a hdmi-dvi cable will not work fully, you will need to reset the projector every time you change the disc or go from xmb to game/movie and again when you finish. And also every time you select enyting from a menu in a blu ray movie. also upscaling of dvd's won't work without a full hdmi cable and a projector that supports hdmi1.3.

I would use a component cable or official vga cable via the multi out port of the ps3, you won't get 1080p this way, the max you will get is 1080i.

Why won't it work? They are the same.

it's to do with the hdcp (copy protection) within the ps3, if it doesn't get the right handshake from the receiver (in this case a projector) it will not output smoothly and will require the device to be turned off and then on again to receive a signal (this needs to be done every time the input is changed). if the projector doesn't have a hdmi input then it won't be hdcp 1.1 compliant or hdmi 1.3 compliant. It's rubbish but it's the new way, component or multi out are not affected by this as they are analogue, the downside is no 1080p, nor any upscaling of dvd's.

DVI supports HDCP though...

I find that every other hdmi device I have works fine with a dvi adaptor (including my 360) but the ps3 is different, I presume as they own movie studios they are tighter on protection measures. I found this out at my expense.

I'm not going to be drawn into a debate on this, it's up to the op whether they buy a cable. I was trying to help save some money.

Does your projector have component input ports?

your best bet is to get a cable that uses the multi out if your not fussed aboput upscaling of dvd's and having 1080p. As the multi out has only got the capabilities of up to 1080i with no upscaling of sd dvd's. If you want to putput dvi directly to the projector then you will need hdmi-dvi cable as you mentioned but also a device to strip the hdcp out of the signal. Like THIS one for example. They are not cheap but will fool the ps3 into outputting full 1080p through the hdmi port without any problems.

Most dvi capable projectors have component and don't support 1080p, so your best bet and cheapest would be one of THESE cables, this is the official sony one at £17.99 but they can be had cheaper forom online auction websites.

good luck:thumbsup:
