would have been a good medal hope tho

He did the crime, which he admitted too, and has now completed his punishment. He should be allowed to compete. It's like if someone drink drives for instance, gets caught, they get a ban, but after their ban they are allowed to drive again.

Let him race at the olympics. Although i suppose he is now a good benchmark against other athletes not taking banned substances at the Olympics.

winners dont use drugs, chambers is a looser
#10
hes clean now and hes the best england has. The chance of winning has now gone.

He was wrong to do drugs. but unfortunatly alot of sports people do. look at tour de france. medals should be revoked. the hand of god, cups should be revoked.

Drugs test should be harder but people are still beating them. How many people at the Olympics will be on drugs. answer alot.

he doesnt use them any more, he is clean, and he ahs done his time now so he should be allowed to compete. we al;l haev done things we regret in the past but me make up for them with our actions just as he has done.
#12
If chambers had been allowed to compete and would've won gold (although asking a lot of him) he would've done so much good to the youngsters of this country that would far outweigh the negativeness he created when he was cuaght, which most people seem to have forgotten now already!
[mod]#13
hes also not appealing

Just to point out that in the Tour de France winners have been stripped of their title for drug use (how pernickety am I?!) :p

Unless you mean this is what should happen and does rather than should happen and doesn't???

If he was fast enough to compete against Gatlin, Powell and Bolt (now record holder) then I would have wanted him to go just for the sake of competition - but the truth is his years away from the sport has made him un-competative (at the top level with the above 3 I mentioned) - so there is no point.
#16
I really dont care tbh!
#17
cheats shouldn't be there, trouble is many seem to slip through the net
wouldn't have wanted to see him win anything
#18
Great decision, He knew this was the outcome when he started to cheat and take the p so hell mend him.

what i also don't get is why he even bothered to question this as he's got next to no chance of winning a medal and to be honest he'd have been lucky to get near the final anyway but I suppose we can now look forward to this drugs cheat trying to show the british public the "real" chambers on i'm a celebrity and celeb big brother.
#19
If he had a chance of winning he should of gone, anything to boost our chance of getting a few medals are most welcome.

I think they should start allowing drug use, it would make the games much more entertaining.

Remember the USA Snow board team, got caught smoking weed, but they said it wasnt performance enhancing so let them off
#20
took drugs and still finished behind other CLEAN athletes! How can he possibly be our best chance now that he is apparently clean? It is not simply a matter of competition, it is a matter of principle! He lied and cheated his way through competitions the moment he took the drugs. He knew the consequences of his actions and done it willingly! He was a role model for many aspiring athletes and he let them all down! How would you feel if your idol got caught cheating in their given field? Disillusioned? Directionless? He has not only damaged his own career, he has possibly damaged the future of other young athletes who wanted to represent their country!
#21
It should be a universal thing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that it is only the British OC that stop previously banned athletes from competing?

Also I think he should have gone, he got his punishment and served it!
#22
dont do the crime if you cant do the time.

He's only clean now because he got caught, just like so many before him, after they have been caught they're all full of regret etc, etc.Should just be a lifetime ban for anyone imo, then there can be no complaints.

good point

Nope I would be disappointed if my idols hadnt cheated at some point in their career, anyway its only cheating if you get caught, and if you remove your rose tinted specs for a second, you will find that we have all bent/broken rules to suit our needs at some point or another.

Yes, it's only the Brits that ban for life. It is seen as them leading the way.

When other countries do things that very few do, it is seen as them being backward, and they need to change to how the rest(West) do it.

Very true some may have 'bent' the rules to suit their needs. But breaking the law is a totally different thing! Doing drugs is not 'bending the rules'. It's tossing the whole book out the window, setting it on fire then dousing the flames with the tears of young babies! The Olympics is not about 'rule bending'!

And just now I hear on the radio Dwain Chambers has failed in his bid to compete in the Olympics! Common sense and fair competiton prevails above all! People only feel remorse if they get caught!

100% agree.
#29
He knew what the ban would be when he took the drugs so that was the risk he was willing to take, it's not as if the rule was made just for him so it should still stand. Also, if he had been allowed to go to the olympics and did win gold, how many people would suspect that it was because he'd taken drugs again?
#30
hes a druggie, bin him

i thought he was banned for life.
banned#32
Good. I dislike cheats.

If you can't take the time, don't do the crime.
#33
I think it's right he shouldn't go.
#34
I love all this holier than thou approach so many have adopted here :)
How many have you have sped more than 4 times, but not been caught? Well each time you have is 3 points and what do points make; a ban :)
You all know the rules when you drive your car, not the same exactly but closest analogy i can think of.

He did cheat, the story is very complex as to what he did mind, it's not a case of him just shooting up but then again, that's not always what folks wanna read, stone the guilty man, pardon the pun

Have a read about what happened to the legend Carl Lewis, he's hardly a saint and he's a multi Olympic Gold medal winner......hmmm
#35
its kind of like being caught speeding and being banned for life.

He was wrong, he did wrong, he shamed himself and his country. But what is the line with drugs? Linford Christie faced alot of **** because somethings legal he took meant showed as ilegal in tests. All athletes are taking drugs of some kind. like guys at gyms taking creatine etc. cyclists . God these days its not just hard work.
#36
he knew the rules - ban for life, before he took the drugs. unfortunately he got caught so no use crying over spilt milk. he has no one to blame but himself.
