e-bay blackmail....again

grrrr. im being blackmailed by 3 different sellers at the moment.
it really does my head in

i 'won', well didnt win, merley purchased 3 seperate items in the last 2 weeks, 2 out of the 3 items have turned up.

HOWEVER, i paid for all 3 items within 5 minutes of the auctions ending.

now, have a guess how many of the 3 have rated me as an ebayer?

bearing in mind as a buyer, ALL i can do is pay promptly, i cant do any more than that, yet these people refuse to leave feedback until i have left them feedback.

as a buyer i have completed my end of the deal once they have got the money, if i pay straight away i would say that it is a good ebayer.

but im being blackmailed into leaving positive feedback for them before they will leave me any feedback.

2 of the 3 items turned up very prompt and infact the xbox 360 game was better packaged than any game i recieved from play, sendit or who ever.

however i refuse to leeve feedback BEFORE they do, as i completed my side of the deal before they did.

i have to ask, are you an ebay balckmailer? if you are why do you do it because i am tempted to leave negative feedback for these people from now on.

Well I understand sellers doing this as whats to stop buyer negging seller after the seller leaves a positive. Plus it can be a fradulent transaction

as a seller u want to know if the buyer is pleased and recieved it on time etc

by leaving feedback your letting the seller know all went well

bitter? not really, however it makes me think twice when i see people with 100% feedback which is supposed to make them more trusting and reliable than someone with 90%.

when they blackmail people into getting positive feedback it devalues the whole system.

i think will start leaving the neg reps after i recieve the last item.

i dont sell things on flea bay, only buy things so neg reps i wouldnt have thought would mean too much as i pay only through paypal and pay straight away.

unless as a seller you wouldnt sell to anyone who has negative rep for giving neg reps?

If they are using selling manager pro then they may simply have it set to "leave feedback once Buyer has left positive", personally i have mine set to leave feedback once customer has paid.

which is great, but why would the seller not give the buyer feedback once they have completed THEIR side of the deal, after all , what else can the buyer do to get positive feedback once they have paid for the item?

If they are using selling manager pro then they may simply have it set to "leave feedback once Buyer has left positive", personally i have mine set to leave feedback once customer has paid.


as i dont use flea bay all that often i didnt even know there was such an option, but i would be more inclined to purchase from someone who actualy completed the feedback once the other has done what they are meant to do

( buyer paying promptly) ( seller posting item opnce paid for promptly and as described).

Imagine this scenario.

1. Buyer Pays.
2. Seller leaves feedback.
3. Buyer recieves item, files a complaint with paypal, wins, sod the feedback.
4. Buyer purchases from another seller, this time you, you see the buyer has good feedback.
5. The vicious circle continues.

No seller in their right mind would leave negative feedback without reason. If they did it can be removed by ebay.

Blackmail? that's being a little silly isn't it? It's just a common practise a lot of sellers go by, for me I see receiving feedback from a buyer as the 'receipt' - it's confirmation that the sale is done and they are a happy bunny. Sellers are just trying to protect themselves by doing this, there's about 1001 way a buyer can abuse the system after they have paid for their item and only 1 way that I can think of for a seller to abuse it.

Look at it this way, if you buy something from me, pay and I leave you feedback you can then say the item never arrived, get a refund and get away with out a negative. You can threaten to neg me if I don't give you a partial refund. You can say the item arrived damaged. You can do a charge back on your credit card etc etc

If you buy something from me, receive it and leave me feedback to say it's all good...what can I do to you? There's no open-able paypal disputes, there's nothing to complain to ebay about, I can't lie to you about the items condition, I can't bribe you over anything etc.

As far as I am concerned, paying is NOT the end of the buyers part in the transaction, it's only the half way point.

good idea, it takes a llittle bit of time cross checking but i think it is the way i will go from now on.:thumbsup:

That is seriously limiting your buying options and there is still no guarantee that the seller will be first to leave feedback. But, if you're happier that way.

but if i paid for something and handed over the cash, and then had some dispute, wouldnt you be able to alter your feedback? i thought there were contingencies for such things?

as i say i dont sell things and i have not had to have any kind of disputes ( although i have just emailed one seller who i paid 6 days ago and have yet to recieve my item).
as a seller there are going to be risks, just as there are if you are a buyer, however power sellers and people with high feedback are blackmailing buyers into leaving positive feedback first, this in turn gives false 'trust' to other ebayers, when you see a score of 100% when there have been 90,000 customers. there isnt 1 business i know of where out of 90,000 customers, not 1 person has had an issue or problem.

i also understand in a way what you say about protecting your reputation, however it is done by the neg rep me and i will neg rep you back methos which is hardly within the ethos of the rating system.

i know it limits my options however to be honest im not overly comfortable in someone trying to put me in a position of lying to protect their business.

i know there are scammers buying and selling but i thought ebay had changed some of the rating things around to make things farer?

Total agreement with that. I know a bloke who bought some stuff from a chinese seller. They tend to leave feedback as soon as they get the paypal payment. Both items arrived but he wasn't happy so the seller sent them again. Bearing in mind he had already been left GOOD feedback, he now leaves negative feedback and blackmails the seller into refunding his money to get the unjustified feedback removed. Net result is said bloke now has 4 items AND his money back, the seller has 'retracted' feedback on his account which looks even more suss than a straight neg imho.

Personally I leave feedback 1st as a buyer and 'sometimes' as a seller. Depends on the vibe I get from the buyer.

100% back all of Starlet's post. OH is the eBayer in our house & she routinely treats the buyer's feedback as confirmation of reciept of goods & that the buyer is happy. If she doesn't recieve this she will then either contact buyer to make sure they are happy & the item has arrived or feedback (positively) on that buyer which USUALLY prompts slow or lazy buyers who just couldn't be bothered to leave feedback.

There is no "blackmail" (Feedback is optional)....it just means you have to decide if the seller/product is worthy of a positive, neutral or neg comment & rate accordingly.

Any seller with decent feedback will do all they can to make sure a customer is happy & protect their feedback as this (teamed with competative pricing) is the best 'ad' for a seller who has taken time to build up this rep. If you are only using an account to buy & get negged for whatever reason then YOU can just open another account & move on, a seller would have to rebuild everything they worked to build up & wouldn't be able to sign up using the same recognised name/branding.......

it is optional but if you are trying to build up a good reputation the honest way then it is not really optional if there is a threat of being neg repped.

i went through a couple power sellers transactions and was amazed

if someone did not put green for the seller but put grey as there had been a problem which was not too bad, the seller merely didnt leave feedback for the buyer ( who will have paid money BEFORE recieving anything).
if, heaven forbid, the buyer had a problem like not being sent the goods, being sent the wrong goods or damaged goods and thing were not sorted and red was left, the seller leaves a nasty red one back with the message

TROUBLE MAKER, SELLERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

now that is a bad message to leave and having read some of the reasons why a red was left for the seller i can understand why reds were left, but this is the same message left for EVERY person who gives the seller a red.

:-(

mind you, it is a free market so i pays my money and takes my choice.
